Opportunity Zones and Complete Communities
Mayor Sylvester Turner hosted on October 15 the Houston Opportunity Zones Conference. In his keynote address, Mayor Turner spoke about how the federal tax break Opportunity Zones program can benefit Houston neighborhoods and, in particular, the Complete Communities. Frost Bank to Build a New Branch in Third Ward 
Frost Bank, a subsidiary of Cullen/Frost Bankers, Inc. held a groundbreaking in October for its newest Frost Financial Center, which will be built in Third Ward at 3432 Scott St. directly on the corner of Scott and Holman St. The new bank branch is expected to open in 2020. Read more.

Aramco Donates $1.6 million to Build New TECHLink Dixon Library in Kashmere Gardens CC

Aramco’s gift helps to rebuild the library, which was closed after Hurricane Harvey because it was damage beyond repair. The TECHLink concept includes high-tech equipment for patrons to learn how to use to create innovative projects.
Wi-Fi Public Transit Takes Off in Second Ward and Third Ward

The launch of a new pilot program will allow passengers on select 54 Scott, 204 Spring Park & Ride bus routes, as well as METRORail’s Green and Purple lines to access METRO Wi-Fi while on board. Read more.  
New Leadership for city-owned Hispanic arts and culture facility in Second Ward

Mayor Turner announced that Multicultural Education and Counseling (MECA) will lead cultural programming at the building gin the East End Cultural District adjacent to Guadalupe Plaza Park. Read more.

Houston LISC has a new grant opportunity for innovative and transformative projects in 2020 that will build on existing Quality of Life Agreements or Community Plans (i.e. Complete Communities). Read more.
