Uinta Basin Oil & Gas Engine Electrification Grant



A Targeted Airshed Grant Program

In 2018, the Environmental Protection Agency identified the Uinta Basin as one of the top five most polluted areas for ozone, resulting in an award of $5 million to the Utah Division of Air Quality (DAQ) to reduce emissions from oil and gas operations. 

DAQ offers incentives for oil and gas producers in Uintah and Duchesne counties to voluntarily reduce emissions of oxides of nitrogen (NOx) and volatile organic compounds (VOCs), the precursors to ozone. Five million is available on a first-come, first-served basis to replace natural gas pump jack engines with electric. Find more information on funding and how to apply.

Emissions Control Rule

A new rule (R307-313), which establishes emission controls and work practice standards for the emissions of blue smoke and VOCs, went into effect on March 24, 2023.

The rule applies to stationary hot mix asphalt plants and their associated oil storage tanks that:

• are located in Salt Lake, Davis, Weber, Utah, and Tooele counties.
• have an annual production level greater than or equal to 250,000 tons of hot mix asphalt per rolling 12-month period.

TEMPO replacing CAERS

As part of DAQ’s efforts to increase efficiency, we will be moving to a new platform for users to manage their Permit By Rule (PBR) sites. This is the same platform used for Approval Order (AO) sites.  

In order to make changes to your sites, you will receive a unique user number that is connected to the sites you can manage. DAQ will email user information to existing users in the next month.

The existing CAERS site will still remain operational for approximately six months for emission inventory submittals. Any questions regarding emission inventories should be directed to Ryan Grant, (801) 413-6605.
