Comprehensive School Threat Assessment Guidelines (CSTAG) -

Threat Assessment Team Training

  • Dr. Dewey Cornell's Comprehensive School Threat Assessment Guidelines (CSTAG)

  • Guidelines for Schools to Use in Responding to Threats of Violence

  • Training is supported by the State of Ohio and HB 123 Compliant

The Comprehensive School Threat Assessment Guidelines (CSTAG), originally known as the Virginia Student Threat Assessment Guidelines, is an evidence-based model for schools to use in conducting threat assessments in K-12 schools. Developed by Dr. Dewey Cornell, this model provides an approach and process to violence prevention that emphasizes early attention to problems such as bullying, teasing, and other forms of student conflict before they escalate into violent behavior.

In this session, threat assessment team members will learn to follow a decisionā€tree process to resolve less serious, transient threats quickly while focusing greater attention on more serious, substantive threats. Various threat assessment forms and strategies to support the threat assessment process will be shared.
