Hugo's Message
For most of us, spring symbolizes a time for new beginnings, a season of growth and renewal — a fresh start.

With this in mind, each of us is in the process of setting the personal and professional goals we will focus on throughout the year. These goals will guide our decisions and the work we prioritize. They will motivate and inspire us to grow and develop new talents. They will move us forward on our individual career paths and as an organization. These goals connect us.

As we execute our strategic plan, we begin to see initiatives take shape to support us on our journey. In the first quarter of 2022, the Deltek Talent system was deployed and a new employee onboarding program was introduced. Despite external hurdles, we happily welcomed back staff to the office, providing an added opportunity to reconnect with colleagues and collaborate in person.

As we move into the warmer months and restrictions continue to ease, I look forward to meeting each of you in person. Until then, enjoy the wonderful season and new beginnings ahead.

COVID Update

Thanks to your ongoing commitment and perseverance, Comtech continues to excel despite the challenges COVID presents. We are incredibly proud of the adaptability and integrity of our teams. Congratulations to each of you for a job well done!

Comtech takes our obligations under Occupational Health and Safety Act very seriously. As we transition back to our offices, we are committed to providing our employees with the safest work environment possible. We are working with clients to ensure return-to-office plans provide the safest environment possible for employees working at integrated team sites.

As of March 1, our Richmond Hill office opened once again to employees. Out of an abundance of caution, we will continue our current vaccination and testing requirements, health screening and masking in the Richmond Hill office for a while longer. If you have the opportunity, please stop by the office to connect.
New Employee Onboarding Program

We have officially rolled out a First Day Onboarding Program for all new Comtech employees. The program includes one-on-one time between new hires and their Manager and members of the Marketing and Communications, People and Culture, Project Pursuits and Finance teams. These sessions provide new staff with an overview of the business, our projects, clients and, most importantly, outlines how their role is critical to Comtech.

Thank you to those providing constructive feedback on ways to improve the onboarding experience and everyone continuing to dedicate quality time to onboard our new team members.
Deltek HRM Update

Thank you to everyone who attended the Deltek Talent Management training sessions. We are thrilled to see a high level of activity in the system. 1. Primary Emergency Contact
  2. Secondary Emergency Contact

Ontario Line Technical Advisor – Exhibition Construction

The Ontario Line Technical Advisor (OLTA) developed a Reference Concept Design (RCD) for a joint Ontario Line/GO Transit station with Exhibition Station as the western terminus for the Ontario Line. The contract was awarded to Kenaidan Contracting in November 2021, with substantial completion expected in July 2023. Our Property and CAD teams have contributed a significant volume of work on this contract.

OLTA and Ontario Line Project Delivery (OLPD) is managing project construction with Comtech as the joint venture partner. The future north entrance will replace 1 Atlantic Avenue, where demolition work is in progress. Demolition work at the eastern end of the south platform is also underway.
Industrial and Manufacturing
Stellantis Material Logistics Management

Our Industrial and Manufacturing business line recently won an engineering services contract for Quality Systems integration for a new, one million square foot extension to a plant sequencing center for the Jefferson Assembly Plant in Detroit, Michigan. Our team is leading IT hardware definition, network requirements, commodity broadcast definition, operator interface and quality verification requirements. The facility will supply sequenced and metered material to the Jefferson North Assembly Plant to support the WD Durango and WL Grand Cherokee 2023 model launches. Over 110 pick cells will be sequenced and shipped lineside to support vehicle production. This will be the largest sequencing center Stellantis has insourced to date.
General Motors Factory Zero

Our team is supporting the GM Factory Zero vehicle launches in Detroit. This unique, all-electric vehicle assembly plant currently has three assembly lines completed. The next two lines are quickly being installed, with plans to expand to six lines in total. Lines 1 and 2 are producing the Hummer Truck EV and the Hummer SUV EV models, while Lines 3 and 4 will build the Silverado EV and the Sierra EV models. Following plans, Line 5 will produce the Cadillac Escalade EV and the Silverado EV models. Line 6 is currently piloting the GM Cruise, an autonomous driving robotaxi, a partnership between GM and Honda. Thanks to the team for their ongoing effort, they continue to receive accolades from our GM clients.
Commercial Vehicle Group

We are nearing the completion on a Phase II support project for our Commercial Vehicle Group client in Saltillo, Mexico. The project includes Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) integration and validation for a new palletized production build line for Rivian and Nikola commercial seats. The MES integration consists of plant floor recipe/production build information, part traceability and production quality information. The critical production build information will be maintained for a 25-year duration.
Stellantis Saltillo Van Assembly Plant

The team recently completed a significant turnkey controls engineering project during an aggressive six-week shutdown at the Saltillo Van Assembly Plant. The project included engineering design, hardware delivery, installation and commissioning for a mission-critical production quality system on four assembly line conveyors. The team and our local installation contractor successfully installed the system and were ready for commissioning with the first production vehicles. Congratulations to the team for a job well done!

Bruce Power Project Services Update

On March 1, our Bruce Power Project Services Team achieved a milestone, having transitioned over 180 Project Controls personnel under Comtech's management while working against a schedule compressed from 90 days to less than 40.

We would like to recognize the incredible efforts of our Finance and People and Culture teams for moving mountains to help us achieve this monumental target. Additionally, we thank all our new team members for their patience and understanding and staying committed to supporting Bruce Power as we worked through the transition.

Over the coming months, we will be working with Bruce Power leadership to drive transformational change within the organization to improve the overall delivery of Bruce Power's multi-billion dollar annual portfolio of projects.
Buildings and Facilities
General Update

The Buildings and Facilities business line has been focusing on expanding services to the Federal Government, including Public Services and Procurement Canada (PSPC) and the Canada Lands Company. Additionally, they are meeting with potential new team members to take on work in the National Capital Region. Our recruitment drive to support growth in this region will continue through to June. If you know people in the Ottawa/Gatineau area who might be interested, please email Chris Swail or Jana Trembinski.

The Buildings and Facilities team is also pursuing project opportunities in Western Canada, Chicago and Miami. Stay tuned for updates on the results of our work-winning efforts!
875 Heron Road

The 875 Heron Road project is nearing Phase 1 (pre-procurement) completion. The team is finalizing the contract and procurement documentation, including the PSOS. Within the coming months, they will screen through successful RFQ proponents and look forward to supporting the PSPC as they enter the procurement phase of this project.
