Alyssum Janke ’19 is embracing a new chapter of life in New York City, which she has called home since October. Aly is currently employed as a Private Label Residential Mortgage-Backed Securities Analyst with Ernst and Young, where she spends her days tying out collateral with lead banks, reviewing investor offering documents, and helping structure bond models for various mortgage shelves. When she’s not immersed in the world of finance, Aly enjoys discovering New York’s inspiring art scene and exploring new coffee shops where she can relax with a good book.
After graduating from Concordia, Aly attended Hillsdale College in Michigan, earning a B.S. in Accounting with a minor in Mathematics. She credits Concordia’s dual credit classes for helping her get ahead in college coursework. During her senior year, Aly seized the opportunity to study at Hillsdale’s D.C. campus while balancing a full-time internship and spent a memorable month in Italy studying Marine Biology.
Aly holds many fond memories of her time at Concordia. As a proud member of the first women’s golf team, she also built strong bonds with teammates on her cross country and soccer teams, experiences that helped shape her high school years. One teacher who left a lasting impact on Aly is Rev. Staub. “His unwavering faith set a perfect example for every student that crossed his path, and I will always look up to him for that. His faith is truly inspiring,” she shares. Aly credits Rev. Staub for showing her how to persevere through life’s challenges with composure and grace, even when surrounded by chaos.
Worshiping as a school community on a weekly basis was another key part of Aly’s spiritual development. “While faith can be a personal journey, having a community around me to learn from and grow with allowed my faith to strengthen and flourish,” Aly reflects. “Concordia helps establish and build upon a foundation set in the best of values. I would not be the same person I am today without all of the people who helped me become a better version of myself.”
From her time at Concordia to her current role in New York City, Aly exemplifies the spirit of hard work, faith, and perseverance. We are proud to celebrate her accomplishments and look forward to all she will continue to achieve!
