From Headmaster Mr. Brent Johnson
Dear Alumni and Friends of Baltimore Lutheran School and Concordia Preparatory School,
Greetings in the name of Our Lord Jesus Christ.
During this holiest of weeks, let us pray:
Gracious God, you have heard the cries of your suffering people. You have sent Jesus to us to be our Redeemer and brother. Open our eyes to see the immensity of your love for us and the wonder of what you have done for us. Give us the courage to be your hands and heart for those who are in pain. Give us the wisdom to speak out for justice and righteousness. May your will be done in us today and always. Amen.
Last Friday marked the end of the third quarter. We are into the home stretch of this school year – a year like no other. We began the year virtually but in early October transitioned to our hybrid model. The students were divided into "Saints" and "Concordia" groups and attended school in person two days per week. We have an outstanding group of teachers and professionals on our COVID team who spent countless hours researching the latest health guidance and metrics and advised the administrative team on the safest way to provide the most normal school day for our students and families. When the positivity rate increased around the holidays, we reverted seamlessly to Virtual School and returned to in-person learning as soon as it was deemed safe to do so with many students now attending in-person four days per week. We are looking to return to five days of in-person learning after spring break.
I want to thank our Athletic Director, Mrs. Fredrica Newman, and our outstanding coaches for their dedication and flexibility in trying to provide as many athletic opportunities as possible for our students. The fall season was short, the winter season was a bit longer, and the spring season is set to be almost normal with playoffs and championship games – hopefully, a happy conclusion for our athletes, especially our seniors.
We have several important events that I want to personally invite you to consider attending either virtually or in-person. All the details can be found below. On Friday, April 16 we will be holding a Virtual Bid for Kids Gala. This is our biggest fundraiser of the year and we need your support. The special appeal this year will raise money to finish the Renew and Rejoice cafeteria project and enable CPS to begin a hot lunch program.
The Concordia Prep Theatre Department will present The Sound of Music May 6 – 8. This is the 40th Anniversary of the Baltimore Lutheran School's production in 1981. We would like to celebrate the members of the original cast and crew on Saturday, May 8 at 5:00 pm If you know of someone who performed in the production, please share this information and tell them to contact our Alumni Director, Mr. Gary Barth at email@example.com for all the details for an alumni reception and gathering that weekend.
Please join the Saints Athletic Boosters Club at the annual golf tournament to benefit Concordia Prep Athletics on Friday, June 11, 2021. The boosters are seeking sponsors and players! Attention BLS/CPS alumni – the golf tournament is a great opportunity to join your classmates for some fun and fellowship and support Concordia Prep Athletics.
As we prayerfully prepare for next year, and a return to normal, we are making plans for the Homecoming Festival on Saturday, October 16, 2021. Mark your calendars. We will have more information to share soon.
As always, thank you for your continued support of Concordia Prep. May God bless you and those you love during this Easter season throughout the year.
