Condemning the Biden Admin's Embrace of Title 42

Last week, President Biden announced a series of changes to migration and border policies, with wide-ranging implications for people seeking safety and refuge in the United States. As part of the Welcome with Dignity coalition, the National Immigration Project and its partners released a statement condemning the administration's repackaging of cruel and inhumane Trump-era policies.

Pushing Back Against the Criminalization of Migration

For years, lawyers, historians, and directly affected individuals have worked together to take down Section 1326, the immigration law that fueled family separation in 2018. Now, the law is being challenged in various court cases across the country. Working to End Detention in Louisiana and Across the Country

In 2022, the National Immigration Project and its partners launched a legal rights initiative designed to provide people detained in Louisiana with knowledge about their right to seek relief before federal courts through the writ of habeas corpus. In conjunction with Covington & Burling LLP, we developed and distributed "Pro Se" materials in eight languages to detention centers.
