Dear Arianna,

This week, a group of U.S. Senators released a funding bill that would expand detention and deportation, implement extreme and harmful border policies, and effectively decimate the U.S. asylum system in exchange for foreign aid. The Senate’s release of this bill text followed the House of Representatives’ passage of four bills that would further target and criminalize immigrant communities.

While the Senate bill failed, the past week has served as proof that Congress is refusing to value immigrant lives and advance common sense policies that would create a more just and humane immigration system.

At the National Immigration Project, as we continue to advocate on the Hill, we are also working to train up a corps of movement lawyers and non-lawyers to support our immigrant community members. See below for more of what we've been up to.
