Hi Troops,
Thank you for that hardworking rehearsal last week! I'm sure it must have felt overwhelming, but I felt I needed to know where every piece stood. Until then we had given the majority of our time to the Brahms, so as you know I'd pretty much given only cursory attention to the other works.
Next week that will change: we will focus on the two a cappella pieces, Log Driver's Waltz and Loch Lomond, hopefully also with a bit of time to strengthen the harmony in Amor de mi Alma.
I'm getting helpful feedback from your section leaders, so please thank them for their careful listening! They've all sent me lists of "spots" that your own sections need to shine a light on, so for now I won't list them.
However, there's one not-so-little detail that the majority of you need to check on, and which we will correct as a group: the final note of measure 6 in the first movement of the Wedding Cantata. It's a unison B, which is a step higher than the unison A you've just held for almost two measures! Many of you are beginning the next phrase by repeating the A. We'll practice making the adjustment.
Please keep looking over the Liebeslieder Waltzes; beginning in March we'll be fully accompanied, when we'll be joined by Amy. I'm sure that Anne will be relieved not to have to try to represent both parts somehow. She's been doing such a great job!
OK, that's it for now. I can't wait to really dig into the unaccompanied pieces. They're both highly rhythmic, needing plenty of energy, so eat your Wheaties, please.
See you soon,
