Hello Everybody,
What a productive rehearsal we had last Tuesday! I think we'll meet our goal of competency on the Liebeslieder Waltzes by the time our second pianist joins us. That's huge: it'll be harder to catch and correct longstanding confusions after that, since the full accompaniment is so flamboyant.
With that in mind, we'll use the first part of next week's time together to dig more deeply into the first waltzes, excluding those that are just for women or men. That means movements 1, 2, 5, 6, 8, and 9 will be focused on.
If there's time before the break, when the sopranos and altos will be excused, we look at Loch Lomond some more . NOTE: I plan to excuse the women at 8:30.
Tenors and Basses, we're going to learn Down in the Valley, the waltzes written just for you, and have a chance to start on the sections of Amor de mi Alma that are written in men's 4-part harmony. These efforts will save time in our full rehearsals on that piece.
Don't worry, sopranos and altos. I've got time set aside just for you, in the future. Fair's fair!
But for all of us, there's great news! Trudy McKinnell, the "Ears" section leader for the altos, has done some important research and sent a list of links to performances of most of this term's repertoire! This was at the request of a couple of singers in her section! (See? It pays to communicate your concerns and ideas to your section leaders! The system works, and if followed we're not interrupted by numerous hands in the air.)
See this all-important list of links below, and huge thanks to Trudy for her investigative efforts:
See you next week, and stay healthy, please!
