Hi Troops,
Bravo on another hard working session last Tuesday! I feel very good about where everything stands except for Wedding Cantata and Amor de mi Alma, but that's because we haven't spent much time on them! So that will be taken care of next week.
We'll do our obligatory march (excuse me, waltz) through the Brahms, this time by moving straight from one piece to the next without stopping. It's continuity and familiarity we're seeking this time. You did read that right: we will not stop for me to fix or improve things, much as I might be dying to do so. You really need the challenge of doing your best on each one the first time, as in performance.
The shorter single pieces will be allowed to simmer on the back burner, since they are doing well. More than that, Loch Lomond is at last beginning to achieve the fiery march I'm working toward! I say "beginning" because you can declaim your rhythmic passages with even more clarity! Sopranos, you have the biggest challenges in that piece, so please do lots of individual work on those tricky turns that have been added to the melody.
After the Brahms we'll take our break and then devote the rest of the rehearsal to the Wedding Cantata and Amor de mi Alma. They need to be as assured as the rest of the pieces, and I know we can achieve that next week.
It seems all of the sicknesses are past now, right? How fun it will be to sound like a fully healthy group!
OK, I'm going to cut things short this time and head for bed: I very much need an early night.
Take care, please stay healthy, and I'll see you next week.
