Districts: Register your SWCD Delegates for the Annual Business Meeting - Due 1/3/20
Each Soil and Water Conservation District in good standing (fully paid annual dues) with the Indiana Association of Soil and Water Conservation Districts, Inc. will have the opportunity to send one SWCD Supervisor delegate to the Annual Conference business meeting. The vote of the district will be cast by the delegate or the alternate at the meeting.  Registration for the delegates is required and must be received by January 3, 2020.  View current registered Delegate List here (as of 12-3-19).
Districts: Schedule Your Legislative Visits in January, February or March
at the Indiana Statehouse
IASWCD is offering to help coordinate visits to the Statehouse during the months of January through March. It is important that Districts meet with their local legislators to make our message of conservation heard, and teach them about your great work. A minimum of at least 3 people from a District must be committed to attend (any combination of Supervisors and/or Staff). The visit will include an overview of the legislative process, a quick tour of the Statehouse, and then meeting with your legislators. December Urban and Community Conservation Webinar Focuses on Wildfire Preparedness
The next NACD Urban and Community (U&C) Conservation webinar is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.-1:00 p.m. Eastern on Dec. 19, 2019. Entitled, "A Successful Community Wildfire Preparedness Program from Washington State," this webinar will feature two Washington State conservation districts who successfully developed unique community wildfire preparedness programs.
Forestry Notes
Forestry Notes is a monthly publication NACD produces in collaboration with the USDA Forest Service and the National Association of State Foresters. Each edition includes prime examples of district-led forestry projects and partnerships focused on finding and implementing solutions to modern forestry challenges. 
2020 Spring Fly-In Date Announced
Every spring, NACD invites its members to join their staff in Washington, D.C., to promote the interests of conservation districts on Capitol Hill.
The event consists of a breakfast briefing and a Congressional reception to celebrate the work of our members on Capitol Hill. Next fly-in will take place on Wednesday, March 25, 2020 .
NRCS Now Accepting CSP Public Comments
On Friday, Nov. 8, the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) released its first major program rule implementing the 2018 Farm Bill. The interim rule implementing the 2018 Farm Bill’s various changes to the Conservation Stewardship Program (CSP)  will be open for public comment  until  Monday, Jan. 13, 2020 . NACD encourages all conservation districts and their partners to review the interim rule and provide comments before the deadline to ensure their local voices continue to be prevalent in the implementation of CSP. Indiana NRCS Updates
Indiana Project Learning Tree
IPLT will begin accepting applications for the 2020 Natural Resources Teacher Institute on Dec. 1. This is a multi-day professional development workshop from June 22-26, that will bring up to 18 teachers from across the state to Morgan-Monroe State Forest to see firsthand how forestry works in Indiana. Sessions include tours of public and private forest lands and forest industry facilities, and forestry research being conducted in Indiana. Deadline: March 1, 2020.
Build fish habitat structures at Patoka Lake
Help DNR improve fish habitat at  Patoka Lake  during a volunteer habitat structure build day. The pallet structure build will take place from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. on Dec. 7. Registration is required.
State Park Trails Sweep ‘Best of Indiana’ Contest
State park trails swept all 10 places in the Indiana Office of Tourism Development’s 2019 Best of Indiana people’s choice campaign for best hiking trails. Turkey Run State Park  took the top two spots. Its Ladders Trail took first. Trail 2, which goes along the Lusk Earth Fill as well as along cliffs, took second. Trail 2 at  Clifty Falls State Park , which traverses Clifty Creek, took third.

EPA Seeking Nominations for FRRCC
On Nov. 11, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)  announced that it is currently seeking  20-30 nominees to serve for two- to three-year terms on the Farm, Ranch and Rural Communities Committee (FRRCC). Established in 2008, the FRRCC provides independent policy advice, information and recommendations to EPA's Administrator on a range of environmental issues and policies important to agriculture and rural communities. The committee expects to meet approximately twice a year. The nomination deadline is  Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2019.
