Resolution of Witness

In Support of Second Look Sentencing Legislation

On October 28, 2023, the Michigan Conference Annual Gathering voted to approve a Resolution of Witness In Support of Second Look Sentencing Legislation

Daniel: Offer redeemed convicts second chance | Opinion

Rev. Lillian Daniel

The Detroit News, February 20, 2023

"Even from the cross, Jesus preached that God gives every person, including those who put him to death, a second chance. This lesson — that there is no sin for which you can’t be forgiven — is a basic tenet of Christianity. Redemption itself is an important part of every religion, and certainly a key characteristic of what it means to be a Christian.

Redemptive acts reach across the entirety of human history, starting with his first sin and fall from grace. And redemption was meant for each of us, including those serving time in our criminal justice system." READ MORE

Caring Clergy Communities

Introducing New Caring Clergy Groups of the Michigan Conference

In 2024, Conference Minister Lillian Daniel reorganized the staffing pattern to meet the need for focused clergy care, which will be a conference-wide priority in the year ahead. This crucial work now falls under the leadership of Rev. Cheryl Burke in her new role of Associate Conference Minister of Clergy Care and Formation, who began her work with a survey of our pastors. Those results confirmed that our clergy need and are interested in connecting for renewal, learning, wellness, and support.

To encourage caring clergy community, small groups are one of the ways that the Michigan Conference will address this need. Space is limited, so sign up as soon as possible. As space allows, we will invite our colleagues from the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) Michigan Region.

The facilitator of each community group has agreed to gather participants, set the agenda, and facilitate an experience of support and growth. Most gatherings will last 1 to 2 hours and meet once a month, with a commitment to meet for one year.

Pastors and Members in Discernment, with clergy care as our priority for 2024, we are ready to start forming Caring Clergy Communities. Our goal is for small groups of caring clergy to begin meeting in April, so please submit this form by March 25
