The NM Conference Office will be closed today,
the Monday following Annual Conference.

EMPTY BOWLS is an international effort on behalf of artists to create bowls that are sold to benefit local food agencies.  In 1993, the first EMPTY BOWLS event in New Mexico was organized by the members of the Potters' Guild of Las Cruces and hosted by St. Paul's United Methodist Church.  Members made 600 bowls and soup kitchen volunteers helped serve delicious soups donated by local restaurants.  At the end of the meal, the bowl was taken home as a remembrance of the many hungry living in our community. The first event raised $3,650 for El Caldito, the local soup kitchen.

This year as the Potters' Guild celebrates our 25th Empty Bowls event.  We are thankful to the many artists and caring people within our community that make our event possible and successful.  Last year we had 1200 bowls and raised $25,000 to support El Caldito, our local soup kitchen.  This funding is the major monetary support for El Caldito.

At Annual Conference, sixty bowls were used as part of worship and were later offered for sale.  These bowls were donated by studio potters or were made at bowl making workdays.  From start to finish, workday bowls may have been touched by at least 10 pairs of hands.  Through your generous donations, $862.15 was raised to help support El Caldito.  This donation will help feed the over 300 children and adults who come to El Caldito each day to receive nourishment.

The Potters' Guild of Las Cruces thanks you for inviting us to be a part of Annual Conference and to be able to offer these bowls for sale.  Thank you!!!

Friday - Ordination Day
As a result of last year's resolution to fund more Native leaders to attend Annual Conference, Raquel Mull introduced participants.  Lydia Patterson sent their Mariachi's to entertain us at the Ordination Luncheon.  The Bishop & our Conference leaders; our newest Commissioned Deacon, Karin Carlson; Dustin Burrows & Janet Norden - newly ordained elders.  The ordination ceremony featured preaching from Rev. Jorge Acevedo - What our new clergy are in for.  Newly retired pastor, Terry Tamplen passed the mantle on to Janet Norden. One hearty soul responded to the call to ordination.  No Annual Conference would be complete without a little Scott Sharp shenanigans.
