Remembering September 11th

Disaster Recovery & Relief Response

As TX bails out of Harvey, the NW part of our country is dealing with rampant wild fires, and Hurricane Irma hits the Caribbean Islands and FL.  Many of our generous people and churches contributed donations to the UMCOR relief effort. If you did not get a chance yet or if you want to make an additional donation, Click here. All funds we receive will go to the UMCOR US Disaster Response Advance #901670.
Many churches also created relief supply buckets and health kits.  One issue is transporting the supplies to a location where they can be of the most use.  From Kevin Bushart: "FUMC Hereford, TX has plenty of storage space for buckets. (Hereford is about an hour east of Clovis.)When we get a load we will send them to the affected area. Please feel free to contact us to bring your buckets by 806-364-0770 or".
The NM Conference Relief Bucket Storage Locations are:
  • Morning Star UMC, Las Cruces - Diana at 575-496-3595
  • St. Paul's UMC, ABQ - Donna - 505-298-5596
  • First UMC, Aztec - Mike Stahl - 505-334-6524
NWTX Disaster Coordinator, Charlie Brown has offered several other bucket drop-off sites.  Please call our Conference Disaster Coordinator, Vernon Baker at 505-918-9538 to coordinate: FUMC Hereford; FUMC Haskell; Aldersgate, Abilene; St. Paul, Abilene; St. James, Abilene;Trinity, Snyder, FUMC O'Donnell

Our certified Early Response Team (ERT) will be deployed on Sept. 25th to Corpus Christi for the week.  For those who want to be "boots on the ground", we are holding ERT trainings in several parts of the Conference and will schedule more in the future. Contact Hap Escue for more information: 505-453-2800. Hap has been asked to train teams in the NWTX Conference as well.
  • Saturday, Sept. 23rd - University UMC-Las Cruces - 8 am - 5 pm.
  • Saturday, Nov. 18th - First UMC-Farmington - 8 am - 5 pm.
  • ABQ tba in 2018.
As we learned from Louisiana and other disaster devastated areas, recovery efforts can take years.  United Methodists and UMCOR are always among the first in and the last out.  We will serve the people of TX for as long as it takes to rebuild.  Above all, PLEASE continue to keep those who have lost their homes (100,000 estimated) and the thousands of relief workers in your prayers.

Bishop's Fall Itinerations Start on Saturday!

 Dear Friends:

At our Annual Conference Session in Las Cruces, I encouraged us to lean into what it means to be conferring together, to share together, to bear together.  Also in Las Cruces, we learned from Rev. Jorge Acevedo of the critical work of the Commission on a Way Forward.  These are challenging times to be the Church, and I anticipate that over the next few months and years, every pastor, every local church, and every faithful layperson will struggle with any number of challenges (large and small) in our shared ministry and witness.  All the more reason for us to work together, to listen together, and to come together.
As part of Bishop Bledsoe's Fall Itineration, we will be sharing and discussing with each other what our common, shared mission is-what are we called to do and be together?  We'll also share and discuss the challenges each of us faces in ministry at the local level, and what a hopeful future-a "way forward" might look like in our context.  This is an incredible opportunity to come together, to share with our episcopal leader, Bishop Bledsoe, and to bear together our hopes and fears as we strengthen our connection and our conversations for mission and ministry.
I hope to see you there!  Randall Partin, Provost

It's a time for Sabbath, Rest, Refuge...
October 26-29th at Sacramento
Come and Go to fit your schedule
Pastors, please forward this email to those
in your church who work with youth and children!

Sacramento Camp & Conference Center has designed a time on the mountain for those who work in the exciting world of Youth and Children's Ministries.  It's a time to rest, connect, and encourage one another. All aspects of this retreat are designed to fit individual schedules and budgets!   Arrive Thursday or Friday, and depart Saturday or Sunday.  You choose!  Register the first person, and the second person from your church attends FREE of charge.  With Friday being the focus day of organized sessions and activities, we've "scheduled" the other days for your much needed R&R on the mountain.

Your lodging will be in our Forrest Lodge or Aspen Lodge (your location will depend on your arrival date). Meals will begin with breakfast on Friday (a really good snack awaits Thursday night arrivals) and ends with Sunday breakfast. So whenever you choose to come and go, be assured that you will be well rested and well fed.

If you are (or work with) a person who dedicates their time, either paid or volunteer, to Student Ministry or Children's Ministry, please consider this retreat.  What a treat to be able to bless or be blessed with this special time away...up on the mountain!
