A silly update about the serious business of distributing socks.
I do love fun socks...
but I did not know how fun sharing fun socks could be!
Just before Easter, Rev. John Lund from UCC Missoula called me and told me their church had lots and lots of socks to share. Could Pilgrim UCC – Bozeman be a sock hub for drop off and pickup of socks? I did laugh out loud at John. Who plans a massive sock distribution two weeks before Holy Week and Easter? We do!
Pilgrim’s Social Justice Team members said, “why not?” to the inquiry to help. Soon, John was unloading boxes of socks at our church with help from his son, Eric, who had interned at Pilgrim the previous summer and brought strong friends to help.
Then, a car from Billings came west and picked up some of the boxes of soxes. Chris Stucky from the Pilgrim Social Justice Team announced after church on Sunday that we had socks to share. Church members and friends reached out to their community connections, and out they are going to children and grown-ups who can use good, fun, free socks.
When the last sock hops out of our churches in Missoula, Bozeman, and Billings, there will be 50,000 more free socks on feet of all sizes across Montana.
The moral of the story: One should not mock your colleague who offers you box upon box of free socks!
