Deadline for Student Technology Integration Challenge Extended to October 12, 2012
Deadline for submissions to The Second Annual Student Technology Integration Challenge has been extended to October 12. This contest encourages teachers to submit student work in the areas of multimedia, desktop publishing and interactive programming. Rubrics are available now at the conference website.

Student Spotlight Speaker on Sunday
As part of our focus on students on Sunday, we are pleased to welcome Daniel Valenzuela who will deliver the spotlight presentation. Daniel is a senior at the Academy of Science (AOS) in Loudoun County, Virginia. The AOS is a competitive magnet school where students complete an integrated, inquiry based science and math program culminating in an independent research project in math or science.
At the AOS Daniel is currently studying AP Biology, Multivariable Calculus and is pursuing an independent research project in math modeling which involves the investigation of encrypting digital information into the base sequences of DNA molecules for information storage in bacteria. His hope, in essence, is to create a "Biological Hard Drive". On alternate days Daniel attends Dominion High School.
Daniel has participated in a summer internship at the NIH, attended Governors School, is a member of DECA at Dominion, and was one of 4 students chosen to represent the US at the 2012 International Science Youth Forum held in Singapore.
Deadline for Award Nominations October 15
VSTE sponsors several awards designed to recognize excellence in educational technology. Award winners are honored at the conference.
The Outstanding Teacher & Leader awards honor those who have demonstrated outstanding achievement and leadership in implementing technology to improve education.
The Innovative Educator of the Year award highlights and recognizes innovative educational practices-especially those that champion the smart integration of technology.
Nominations will be accepted from September 15 - October 15, 2012.

Special Learning Opportunities for Instructional and Technology Administrators
Educational Technology Leadership Institute
The theme for the fifth annual Educational Technology Leadership Institute (ETLI) is Bring Your Own Technology. A panel of educators will discuss this trend and how they have implemented it in their school divisions as part of the luncheon symposium. Breakout sessions will also provide further time for discussion and learning. Consider bringing a team to this special event. ETLI will be held on Monday, December 3, and participants will be able to attend the conference keynote with Steve Dembo and special concurrent sessions chosen with school leaders in mind. Concurrent sessions, peer networking, keynote presentations, a sit-down lunch...all in one day! Thanks to Dell and Intel for their support of ETLI!
IT Solutions Strand for Network Admins
A special Information Technology (IT) Solutions Strand, designed especially for network and technology administrators and specialists will be held on Monday, December 3. Topics will include Windows Virtualization, Mobile Device and iOS Management, and BYOD. Our facilitators will lead discussions and share their experience and know-how with other IT folks that struggle with the same issues related to the technical implementation of technology. This forum provides opportunities for everyone to participate!
