Connecticut Passes Media Literacy Law
Connecticut legislators have passed a law that will help to elevate media literacy education in the state's public schools. The new law will help schools to meet the requirement by bringing together experts and state resources to identify best practices and methods of instruction so students will learning to safely, ethically, responsibly and effectively consume and create media using the array of technologies available.  [ read more ]

YT Media is an annual summer workshop that uses photography & video to give local youth and community members the opportunity to document the impact of gentrification & displacement in their communities. Annual Conference 2018
YALSA has opened up its call for program proposals for the ALA Annual Conference which will be held in New Orleans, LA,  June 22 - 26, 2018. Proposals should be appropriate for youth age 12-18 and focus on  topics like partnerships, learning outcomes & evaluation, connected learning, learning spaces, making, digital literacy, college & career readiness, workforce development for library staff, etc. Submission deadline: Aug 25 [ learn more ]

CFS: Media Literacy Book Chapter
This is a call for proposals for book chapters for a book on digital media, transformative education and democratic praxis called Media Literacy 2.0: From Techno-Fetishism and Moral Panic to Critical Democratic Classroom Praxis. Factitious: Game Tests Fake News IQ
A new open source media literacy game tests users' ability to detect fake news from real. The game's interface mimics the dating app Tinder, having players swipe left when they think the article in front of them is fake, and right when they believe it's real.

Media Literacy Apps
At ISTE 2017, Google for Education announced a new bundle of media literacy apps for Chromebooks: Scrible and eSpark Frontier. The tools are designed to support students as they research and write using contemporary online information and help students form opinions about the media they consume.  [ read more ]

Literacy Lessons
The Media Literacy Clearinghouse has begun compiling a list of media literacy lessons authored by librarians. Librarians are invited to submit lessons to Frank W. Baker to be hosted on the MLC website. [ read more ]
