Principal & Superintendent Certificate Standards: SBEC Opens Review
ACT NOW! Expand standards to include knowledge of comprehensive school counseling programs. Comments close on September 24, 2018.
The State Board for Educator Certification has begun the review process for both the Principal and the Superintendent Certificate. There is nothing in the current standards that reference comprehensive school counseling programs. Requiring principals and superintendents to know what school counselors do, how they impact student success, and why students and teachers clamor for more access to school counselors is an essential and minimum standard for these important administrators.
Hundreds of comments are needed to change these rules. TCA will submit comments and will share those the week of September 17
th
. In the meantime, please review the current rules for each category and share your recommendations with SBEC now. One of the greatest obstacles to the delivery of comprehensive school counseling programs and access to school counselors is that principals and superintendents don’t know what school counselors do. You can help change that.

Thank you for being a member of the Texas Counseling Association! In order for TCA to continue funding its outstanding advocacy work and delivering the outstanding resources you have come to expect,
membership dues will increase slightly on October 1st.
Want to save? Renew your membership before October 1st! TCA will extend your membership from the date of your current renewal. So, if your renewal date in January 2019, renew now and your membership will be in effect until January 2020. A great deal!
After October 1st, Professional and Affiliate membership will increase from
$125 to $150. Student, New Professional and Retired membership will increase from
$60 to $70.
