Books For Brockton
The city's public library is giving them away.
"We want to get books in the hands of everyone who wants to read." Said Paul Engle, Director of Brockton Public Library.
Having had to close their physical doors for the time being, our library has worked hard to offer quality library resources and activities on line, and now has a goal of distributing 10,000 free books throughout the city.
2,000 books were purchased locally by funds from the Brockton Library Foundation, a non-profit group who fund raise to support BrPL events and activities such as book discussions, children's events, and the museum pass program. The Foundation also raised money to pay for interior furnishings of the renovated Main Library and the East Branch.
This first wave of books are being distributed through the Veterans and Seniors programs in the city and the grab & go meals provided to 2,000 families each day at 10 school locations.
The Brockton Library Foundation is looking for monetary donations to help meet their goal.
Books were picked up by Brockton Area NAACP Education Committee, arranging distribution at the Grab & Go meal sites. Pictured: Jessie N Jeune, Leona Martin, Chair, and Paul Engle, Director of BrPL.

2020 Musical Montage By Brockton High School Drama Club
Every May for the last 50 years, musical magic has graced the Brockton High School stage. Our entire community has been immersed into a theatrical experience that has offered education, enrichment, entertainment, and elegance. Unfortunately, due the pandemic, we were unable to perform a spring musical this year.
Mr. Hogan and I, along with our directing team and students, are so proud to release this musical montage celebrating the last 3 shows performed: Sister Act (2017), 9 to 5 (2018), and Newsies (2019). We hope it brings a smile to your face as you watch these talented students!
Brockton Area Prevention Collaborative Coalition
The Brockton Area Prevention Collaborative's mission is to save lives from substance use and prevent the damage it can do to individuals, families and our local community.

To do this, we educate young people with accurate information and tools to cope with life’s challenges, and to help them understand the harmful effects of drugs and alcohol. We connect individuals and families with the resources they need to become better informed. And we work with leaders in the community to build a system of support in every neighborhood.

Two digital billboards went live on the morning of Monday, May 11th on Route 24 at Exit 17 in Brockton. The billboards, created by the Brockton Area Prevention Collaborative, promote connection and resiliency with hopes to encourage anyone who is struggling to reach out and ask for help during this challenging time. The art will be displayed on each side of the billboard and will be visible to both north and southbound traffic on Rt. 24 through the first week in July.

To learn more about the work being done in your community around substance use prevention, please visit the Brockton Mayor's Opioid Overdose Prevention Coalition's website at  opioidoverdoseprevention.org . Or find us on Facebook @ BMOOPC , on Instagram @ od_preventionist , and on Twitter @ OD_Prevention .
