STORIES OF INTERNMENT
February 19, 2022, marks the 80th anniversary of the signing of Executive Order 9066 by President Franklin D. Roosevelt, a wartime order which authorized the forcible removal and incarceration of 120,000 Japanese Americans from their communities in the Western United States and Hawai'i, including San Mateo County.

Our Confronting History: Stories of Internment program series will explore these past injustices and inspire community action to combat current and future threats to our shared civil liberties. Presented by Redwood City Public Library, San Bruno Public Library, and South San Francisco Public Library.

We have events for families, teens and all ages:

Thanks to the California State Library's American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) Workforce Development & Support program, Redwood City Public Library has access to Coursera for free until September 2022.

  • All Redwood City Public Library locations are open for restored hours and services. Visit our RCPL Limited Edition page for hours, services, safety guidelines, and more.
  • Curbside drop-in service for holds pick-up is available at the Downtown Library during open hours
  • Bookdrops are open to accept returns
  • Computers for public use are available at all locations
  • Our events are online and outside! Check our calendar here.
  • Meeting rooms at 25% capacity are open to the public, more information here.
  • Borrow eBooks and eAudiobooks; use streaming TV, movie, and music services; and access digital subscriptions to newspapers and magazines here.
  • Online resources are available to current card holders and new cardholders. Don't have a card? Sign up here
