IT'S SUMMERTIME!!!
School's out for many and we're so excited summer is here! Summer is our favorite time of year because it means we get to have a blast with our campers in our Educational Summer Camp programs.
CAN's Educational Summer Camps are an amazing opportunity for our rising 1st-6th students to participate in a free 6-week summer camp at five of our community centers, exploring topics like nutrition, language arts, and science through engaging and enriching activities, practicing mindfulness, playing outside, eating three meals a day, and this year's thematic curriculum will be...

CAN campers will participate in a range of student-led art & design-based projects relating to topics like biodiversity, climate change, natural resources, sustainability, upcycling, youth activism, and more.
Our Director of Education, Laura Amtower, has been with CAN since 2016 collaborating with team members and community members to design knock-out art and design curricula specifically for CAN students and curating an environment across all CAN locations for students to explore, collaborate, learn, and play through creative pedagogy.
Thanks to Laura and her team (special thanks to Victoria Stewart, Ashley Bond, and Sarah Sujkowski), CAN's curriculum is not only one of a kind, but it is groundbreaking!
The themes introduced this summer will be expanded upon during the school year, as our campers join us for our After School Programs in the fall. This long-term consistency we get to have through building meaningful relationships with our students and continuing to scaffold transdisciplinary topics throughout the school year is our formula for successful student social-emotional and academic outcomes.

Workshops, Trainings, and Planning, Oh My!
|
The time between the end of After School Programs and the start of our Educational Summer Camps is time well-spent debriefing, workshopping, and planning ahead.
These crucial weeks hold space for a Director's Workshop, finalizing Educational Summer Camp staffing, onboarding, and planning, and a two-week summer staff orientation before summer camps begin!
Many teams are organizing and cleaning their centers, reviewing summer curriculum, celebrating the end of the school year with students, and partnering with families to complete program registration forms for the upcoming summer and school year.
A huge component of our culture at CAN is ensuring we are also enacting healthy self-care strategies so we can refill our cups. The space between programs is an opportunity to take a deep breath, take a break, and prepare our minds and bodies for a summer of awesome so we can start with full tanks.
We also love to party and look forward to an upcoming Staff Fun Day!
What do you like to do to reset and recharge
at the end of the school year?

In the midst of shortages due to food chain supply issues, consider giving to CAN this June!
|
Businesses, grocery stores, and food suppliers are strapped for resources as breakdowns in the food supply chain at multiple levels are making it difficult to obtain fresh meat and produce.
Help ensure CAN families have healthy, fresh food on their tables by donating gift cards from nearby grocery stores or donating a little extra to CAN this month so we can purchase items families need to stabilize in this rocky season.

Donate to Support the
CAN Art & Design program
(creator of CAN's upcoming Environmental Sustainability thematic curriculum)
|
|
CAN's thematic curricula utilize sensory learning and tactile materials to assist students with problem-solving through designing prototypes and creating real projects. Every donation will assist with ensuring our students have access to the materials they need to become world-changers!
