Congratulations to WPH ED Judy Travis, one of Mohawk College's 2018 Distinguished Fellows
Judy Travis, the Executive Director of Workforce Planning Hamilton has won a well deserved accolade and has been named one of Mohawk College's Distinguished Fellows for 2018. 

Judy has been with WPH for more than 18 years and oversees a range of research 
projects that address labour market and skills development issues that bridge the gap between workforce supply and demand.

Judy has many years experience in the not-for-profit sector including previous work in literacy and fundraising. Her work creates opportunities to support a range of workforce and community-based initiatives including the Mayor’s Blue Ribbon Task Force for Workforce Development, the Skills Development Flagship for the City of Hamilton, the Hamilton Roundtable for Poverty Reduction and the Hamilton Immigration Partnership Council. She is active in the community and volunteers for several community organizations.

Judy will receive an Honorary Diploma at the Liberal Studies Convocation Ceremony on Friday, June 22 at 2p.m.

Top Trends in Manufacturing in Hamilton via new Census data


The release of new Census data (2016) has uncovered trends in the Manufacturing sector that will be of interest to job seekers and employers alike.

Top trends include:

  • Employment in manufacturing has decreased over the past 10 years in Hamilton
  • More recently, from 2011 to 2016 employment in manufacturing increased by 2,610 people
  • The largest declines during the past ten years were in primary metal, fabricated metal product and machinery manufacturing
  • The majority of manufacturing employers are under 20 employees (73%)
  • 13% of manufacturing employers have more than 50 employees, compared to 4% for other industries
