Memorial Day
The Aurora Veterans Advisory Council (AVAC) held its first annual Vets Week Aurora last month. The week long celebration leading up to Memorial Day included picnics, a parade, a car show, and a 5K race.

Our country's veterans were honored and celebrated at various events throughout the week. A wreath laying ceremony was held at Veterans Island. There  was also a dedication ceremony for the new WWII Exhibit at Phillips Park. Several area veterans were presented with handmade quilts from the Quilts of Valor Foundation.

Aurora's Grand Army of the Republic Memorial Hall and Museum reopened on Memorial Day after the historic building underwent extensive restoration.

Aurora Vets Week was a great success, and AVAC looks forward to adding even more to the festivities next year!

Marklund was awarded a Foundation grant toward the purchase of a MOTOmed, an upper and lower body trainer for use in its Developmental Training Program. Research indicates that using this device reduces muscle spasms and improves muscle strength and flexibility.

Marklund provides a residential home as well as therapeutic services in Geneva and Bloomingdale for adults and children with severe and profound developmental disabilities.

They offer a comprehensive active treatment program which provides for the intensive medical, social, emotional and physical needs of the residents.

Scholarship Announcements!
Congrats To Our 2016 Scholarship Recipients
After months of preparation, careful reading of applications, and thorough reviews and discussions, the 2016 Scholarship Program of the Community Foundation of the Fox River Valley is now complete.

This year the Community Foundation received 714 applications, the most in a single year. Thanks to the generous efforts of our scholarship selection committee, and their sub-committees, the Foundation was able to award 346 students with scholarships.

More than $670,000 will be awarded to these students during the 2016-2017 academic year. Additionally, the Foundation is proud to announce that over the next four years, the total projected awards for these scholarships is nearly $1.04 million. This level of support is a record for the Foundation!

"The scholarship process went very well this year," said  Robert J. O'Connor, Chairman of the Foundation's Scholarship Committee. "The members of the school review committees commented on the outstanding achievements and accomplishments of the scholarship recipients from all of the schools. We are thrilled that the end result was to set a new record for the four year scholarship awards of $1,040,000."

Thank you to all the students who applied. The Community Foundation and its scholarship donors are proud to support local students with their educational journeys. We wish each of them all the best this fall.

Congratulations to our many 2016 Scholarship Program Recipients! The list of recipients can be  viewed here
