Charting Careers 2021 Scholarship and Awards Night
|
We recently celebrated the Charting Careers Class of 2021 at our annual Scholarship and Awards dinner. Our speaker, Dr. Mamie Parker, was the inspiration we needed to wrap up this school year with determination and enthusiasm. Thanks again to the Charting Careers community of scholars, families, mentors, tutors, staff and volunteers who attended…you are loved.

Charting Careers, in partnership with Anne Arundel County Public Schools (AACPS), People Builders Consulting, Newtowne CDC, and the Collaborative Supporting Youth, has launched its Community Equity Hub Program!
We have already hired five Community Navigation Specialists, who are community residents and leaders serving in key Annapolis neighborhoods to increase student academic success and overall well-being by building relationships with students and families, identifying unmet needs, helping families access existing AACPS resources, and connecting students and families with other community supports and opportunities.
Please, join us in welcoming our first five Community Navigation Specialists!
- Diesha Contee (Eastport/Harbour House)
- Dorothea Abrims (Woodside Gardens/Newtowne)
- Nyia Curtis (Parole)

Virtual Career Panel
In April, two of our high school juniors co-hosted a Career Panel for Charting Careers, Centro de Ayuda, and Annapolis REACH participants! Professionals in Event Planning, International Affairs, Immigration Reform, Nonprofit Leadership, and University Student Affairs shared lessons learned, challenges and inspirations, all of which lead to rich conversation and reflection.

College Planning Sessions
In May, our fantastic volunteer professional college advisor (Laura Baxter, the Key School College Advisor) provided two college planning sessions for our sophomores and juniors, complete with college swag, dinner, and so much fun!

Mother's Day Gifts
We want to thank the Annapolis Maritime Museum & Park for sharing their beautiful space with us. Charting Careers volunteers and staff enjoyed such a lovely day with several of our elementary scholars as they lovingly made Mother’s Day gifts and enjoyed hiking and exploring.

Mentoring involves 5-10 hours a month of volunteerism. Charting Careers partners with mentors to ensure scholars are supported by our community. Please sign up here for our mentoring orientation on June 23 at 6:45 p.m. or email our Mentor Coordinator, Linda Mundy, for instructions on how to join a virtual informational session.
* Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) male mentors and Spanish-speaking mentors are especially needed!*
