A word from the Rabbi
Rabbi Paltiel Greetings!

Commencement means graduation. It also means 'beginning'.

As we salute our graduates, we know they understand their commencement isn't the end. It's really a stepping stone towards even greater accomplishments in the future.

The Torah compares a human being to a tree. Unlike mammals, trees never stop growing, they never reach a place where they level out and plateau. Humans too are designed to continue to grow, spiritually, emotionally, mentally throughout life.

Mazel tov graduates! We're SO proud of your accomplishments! Keep it up!

Shabbat Shalom,

Rabbi Shalom M Paltiel

P.S. If your child graduated, please send us the info and photo for mention in future newsletters.

Question of the Week
Question of the week
Judaism Doesn't Turn You On?
By: Rabbi Aron Moss | Sydney, Australia

Question: Judaism doesn't do it for me. I've been there done that - I was star pupil at the bar mitzvah class of my temple, spent my teenage years at a Zionist youth group, did the Israel thing after high school, even took Judaic Studies in college, but after all that nothing has turned me on. What do you say to people like me who simply are not inspired by Judaism?

The Female Estate
Traditionally, the linear, male method of "conquering the land" has been perceived as superior and more effective. But the daughters of Tzelafchad realized that there will come a time when humanity will evolve to a more feminine mode of conquest . . .

The Parshah In A Nutshell
Parshat Pinchas
Aaron's grandson Pinchas is rewarded for his act of zealotry in killing the Simeonite prince Zimri and the Midianite princess who was his paramour: G-d grants him a covenant of peace and the priesthood.

A census of the people counts 601,730 men between the ages of twenty and sixty. Moses is instructed on how the Land is to be divided by lottery among the tribes and families of Israel. The five daughters of Tzelafchad petition Moses that they be granted the portion of the land belonging to their father, who died without sons; G-d accepts their claim and incorporates it into the Torah's laws of inheritance.

Moses empowers Joshua to succeed him and lead the people into the Land of Israel.

The Parshah concludes with a detailed list of the daily offerings, and the additional offerings brought on Shabbat, Rosh Chodesh (first of the month), and the festivals of Passover, Shavuot, Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, Sukkot and Shemini Atzeret.
