OSP is participating in a NIH Data Management Sharing Plan Pilot with the Federal Demonstration Partnership program from March 1, 2023 – February 29, 2024.
Information on FDP
UNLV is a member of the Federal Demonstration Partnership (FDP) which is a cooperative initiative among 10 federal agencies and 217 institutional recipients of federal funds for Phase VII. The FDP is a unique forum for individuals from universities and nonprofits to work collaboratively with federal agency officials to improve the national research enterprise.
Under this NIH DMSP Pilot project, upon submitting an NIH proposal that requires a Data Plan, the Pre Award Research Administrator will ask the PI if they want to use one of two templates that have been provided for this pilot. There is Version 1 or Version 2, by selecting to use of one of these versions, the PI will also be asked in the future via a survey about their experience in using one of these templates. We are encouraging our faculty to participate during this pilot year.
Expectations
Pre award will work with faculty submitting NIH proposals to request that they use Version 1 or Version 2 when developing their DMS plans.
Resources
Overview of the Pilot Project
Phase 1: NIH Data Management and Sharing Plan Template Pilot
- Test the effectiveness and usability of two DMSP templates developed in collaboration with representatives from participating ICs
- Version 1 is a prescriptive template designed to limit the need for free text entry
- Version 2 aims to provide detailed prompts as well as more options to include free text responses as necessary
- Gather data from the researcher/faculty perspective as well as the NIH program perspective
- Refine template(s) based on pilot data
Phase 2: Cost Policies
- Establish common cost principles
- Identify types of costs required
- Determine how to identify additional/unforeseen costs that may be required to meet the spirit of the data sharing policy.
