May 24, 2023

Congratulations to the Evergreen Academy

Pre-K Class of 2023!

We pray God's blessings on this group of precious young ones and wish them all the best in Kindergarten! We are also so grateful for the families who have entrusted Zion & Evergreen Academy with this chapter of their child's education.

Order Your Anniversary T-Shirt

(Just a graphic. Not the final design.)

We are in the process of designing a 65th Anniversary T-Shirt that we will wear to all of our community events, anniversary events, and "just because" for the next twelve months (and beyond).

If you would like one, please complete the order form by clicking below so that we order enough of each size. We expect that shirts will cost around $10 each, but if cost is a barrier, please let us know!

Opportunities to Serve Joyfully & Give Selflessly

Synod Assembly Service Project

This year's service project at our Synod Assembly will benefit Harbor House of Florida, which provides safe shelter, counseling & support services to survivors of domestic abuse.

Our delegates from Zion (Gail & Kurt Schmidt) will be bringing toothbrushes, full-sized toothpaste, combs, and hairbrushes to add to the welcome baskets being assembled for Harbor House clients. Please assist Zion's contribution by bringing these items to worship on Sunday, May 21st and Sunday, May 28th. Alternatively, you may designate a financial contribution and we will purchase the items for you.

Opportunities to "Just Show Up"

This Sunday: Day of Pentecost

We are planning to return to the Church Sanctuary this Sunday.

Don't forget to wear red!

Pentecost derives its name from the Jewish festival celebrating the harvest and the giving of the law on Mount Sinai fifty days after Passover. Fifty days after Easter, we celebrate the Holy Spirit as God’s presence within and among us. In Acts the Spirit arrives in rushing wind and flame, bringing God’s presence to all people. Paul reminds us that though we each have different capacities, we are unified in the Spirit that equips us with these gifts. Jesus breathes the Holy Spirit on his disciples, empowering them to forgive sin. We celebrate that we too are given the breath of the Holy Spirit and sent out to proclaim God’s redeeming love to the world.

The Rev's Thoughts & Recs

Last Sunday we talked about Jesus' prayer asking God to give his followers unity within God's protection. We never have to be concerned about connecting with those who differ from us, because our Lord delights in our sharing God's love to unite with others.
