Congratulations on making it through January!

February is Black History Month, and we invite you to explore history right here in our city. In 2023, a statue of Henrietta Lacks was unveiled at the plaza named in her honor. If you have not yet visited, we hope you'll stop by this month to learn more about her meaningful history and legacy!

The statue was made possible through the Roanoke Hidden Histories Project. For an interactive local history experience, view Hidden in Plain Site: Roanoke, which highlights overlooked sites that tell the story of the Black experience.

Spring ball is right around the corner, and now is the time to sign up!

For youth, softball & Little League baseball are offered through our local, volunteer rec clubs. Practices start in March, and games start in April.

Our Adult Softball Leagues are also open for team registration. Practices start at the end of March, and games kick off mid-April. Now, PLAY BALL!

Looking to up your photo game?

Join us (as well as a professional photographer, of course) to learn more about how to capture winter scenes. This Outdoor Photography Workshop will focus on water and how winter weather transforms our local streams, creeks, and waterfalls. Get 1-on-1 instruction, whether you use a DSLR, vintage film camera, or your smartphone. Offered February 22 - space is limited!

Think nature-based programming hibernates for the winter? Think again!

Nature Lab programs are offered all year round, and our second Winter Series starts February 19! Nature Lab is a six-week, science based program for ages 6-15. Taught at the Mill Mountain Discovery Center on Wednesday mornings, this series allows for hands-on learning. $75 includes all six-weeks, led by a fully licensed teacher.

PARK PROJECT UPDATES

Lots of progress has been made on the Washington Park Pool lately, including the installation of the slide! Check out the video for some of the recent progress. You can expect a few more big updates on this project as we prepare for it's grand opening this summer! LEARN MORE

Master Plan Public Input Meeting - Postponed

OOPS! We had to postpone our Master Plan Public Meeting, originally scheduled in January. We're still working to finalize a new date and will share as soon as possible, so be sure to check our social media for updates!

TRAIL & GREENWAY UPDATES

Flooding from recent rains CLOSED the Roanoke River Greenway and vehicular lane along Wiley Drive (between Wasena Park and River's Edge Park). Crews will get the flooded area cleaned up as soon as possible to get the area reopened. Check Statusfy for updates.

The Mill Mountain Greenway along Prospect Road is now OPEN!

COMING SOON: The Star Trail Parking lot off Riverland Road SE is expected to be closed sometime soon. More info will be shared via Statusfy and social media as soon as it's available.

100 Miler Check-In - Day 22

Shoutout to all our 100 Miler participants (400+ and counting)! We're at Day 22, which means we're nearly a quarter of the way through! Some of you may be just getting into a routine knocking out miles, while others may be well past 25 at this point. If you're interested in signing up, it's not too late!
