July 1, 2024

Who says summer is slow? The Phillies are staying busy (and hot!) and so are we. June marks the end of our fiscal year making it one of the busiest months of the year at CCEDC. Year-end reporting, budgeting for next fiscal year, and electing new board members are all part of our annual June slate.  This year, Chester County businesses got an extra shot of CCEDC support before summer vacation began, from The Road to Entrepreneurship Lunch & Learn to a summer session on financing that included low-interest loan options for energy efficiency just as your AC kicks into high gear.

July will remain busy with exciting news for Project RECONNECT that will give our Chester County workforce an injection of new and highly qualified workers. We’re also preparing to host some of Chester County’s future leaders during our series of Summer Academies.  And, lastly, we welcome a valuable new member of the CCEDC team whose name and face many of you already know and recognize.. Congratulations, New Business Champions!

Two New Business Champions received Parent Love Awards from Main Line Parent. Sensory FIT and Balanced Babysitting were recognized as businesses going above and beyond to help parents learn, celebrate, shop, and thrive.

Our latest round of NBC grants had 54 awardees. To date, more than $215,000 has been awarded to nearly 150 small businesses.

CCEDC participated in a walking tour of West Chester to learn about the history of the Underground Railroad in the area.

Chester County Commissioners and CCEDC Celebrate Graduation of Project RECONNECT Students

One year after the introduction of Project RECONNECT, 97 students have celebrated or will be celebrating their graduation – an achievement they thought might never be completed were it not for support from this first-of-its-kind workforce development program.

Administered by the Chester County Economic Development Council (CCEDC), Project RECONNECT assists individuals from southeastern Pennsylvania who started their post-secondary education degree or certification but had to stop before completing due to unforeseen personal life situations. Project RECONNECT’s funds were awarded to qualified individuals working towards employment in a high-priority or in-demand occupation – primarily healthcare. In addition to tuition, the program provides support for childcare, transportation, and food.

Through Project RECONNECT, CCEDC enrolled qualified students in a number of the region’s colleges and universities including Chestnut Hill College, Delaware County Community College, Harcum College, Montgomery County Community College, Peirce College, Penn State University and West Chester University.

AMY Rodriguez Miller, a Project Coordinator for Project RECONNECT, was selected as the Social Work Student of the Year at Pennsylvania Western University.

This honor recognizes exceptional performance through academic achievement, leadership, commitment to social work professional values, and service to the campus and community.

Similar to the students she has been assisting through Project RECONNECT, Amy is a non-traditional student who completed her degree while helping others do the same. Congrats!
