IB appoints a Head of Development, USA and Canada
Robert Kelty has been promoted to Head of Development, USA and Canada, effective 4 January 2023, after serving as an interim Head of Development & Outreach since July 2022. Robert was previously the Senior Development Manager before the interim appointment.
Robert, approaching his third anniversary with the IB, has been instrumental in creating and executing strategic plans and initiatives relative to growth and quality assurance, university and government support, private and public-school support, and organizational improvement.
“The recruitment process to fulfill this role was competitive,” said Haif Bannayan, Global Director of Business Development. “Robert’s proven track record of supporting our schools, organizational improvements, and his ability to strategize to expand IB programming, specifically for historically marginalized communities, will continue to provide growth opportunities for IB schools and communities.”
Robert joined the IB in April 2022, assuming the role of Senior Development Manager.
Robert graduated Summa Cum Laude from Louisiana State University with a BA in Philosophy and Religious Studies with a minor in Zoology, a MA in Education from the University of New Mexico and a Ed.D. in Curriculum and Instruction and a Honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters from Northern Arizona University.
Robert is a published author and content contributor to the IB Community Blog and the first contributor to the IB podcast series Thinking About Day 1: A Trauma-Informed Reopening of Schools. Robert’s commitment to education started with Teach for America as an elementary school educator in New Mexico, followed by being named the Arizona Teacher of the Year in 2008. In 2009, he was appointed as a clinical professor at Northern Arizona University, where he was named as one of the as Most Influential Faculty Members award.
He continued his progression as into elected office as the Coconino County Superintendent of Schools where he worked with all levels of government on education issues and simultaneously oversaw the Coconino County Accommodation School District and expansion of early childhood programs in Flagstaff, Arizona and across Coconino County. Robert most recently held roles with Teach for America and, immediately before coming to the IB, served as Head of School for Puente de Hózhó Elementary School in Flagstaff where he brought the IB to his northern Arizona community.
In his new role, Robert and his team will focus on supporting, sustaining and growing the work in the IB’s largest markets to grow IB programmes through a compelling strategic vision, growth and marketing plans as well as nurture a new government relations programs in the United States. In addition, the team will continue to develop, plan and manage education webinars/seminars, recognition forums and higher education symposiums.
