Rockwell Families -
please join our upcoming yearbook picture contest! Did you know that your PTA is working hard to put together a yearbook for families, even in the time of remote learning? As difficult and strange as this year has been, we want families to have something to remember the '20/'21 school year. We've been collecting pictures from families to include in the yearbook, but know that we're still missing submissions from many, many families. Please join our upcoming contest on Facebook as we collect pictures of students in their remote learning spaces. The contest will run from Monday, February 22nd through Sunday, February 28th. At any point during that week, post a picture of your kiddo in their workspace on Norman Rockwell PTA's Facebook page. We'll include all submissions in the final yearbook. As well, the Facebook picture with the most engagement will win a special prize!

If you'd like to send additional pictures to be included in the yearbook (instead of, or in addition to, participating with the FB contest) please email the photos to: yearbookphotos@normanrockwellpta.org. We'd love to see photos of your kiddos from class parties, virtual dances, working on science experiments or art projects, etc.

Beagle Fetch 3.0

Families who are remote: we will continue to hold Beagle Fetch events throughout the year in a slightly updated format. Fetch events will now take place on Wednesdays from 11:00 AM – 2:00 PM. Items will be left out for families to grab (some grade levels may have their areas supervised), and we will put all uncollected items in front of the school on the Thursday following each event. Grade-level teams will share more specific information about pick-up procedures in classroom newsletters. Please mark these Fetch dates on your calendar: 2/24, 3/10, 3/24, 4/21, 5/19.
The PTA is recruiting parent volunteers for next year’s PTA Executive board. The commitment requires attendance at monthly board meetings, and performance of specific duties assigned to your designated board position. Don’t worry, you’ll have lots of guidance and assistance from an energetic and supportive group of other parent volunteers who already sit on the board. Now, more than ever, we need help from parents who want to enrich the lives of all children attending Norman Rockwell Elementary.  If you’re interested in joining a group of fun and dedicated parents, please email Denice at events@normanrockwellpta.org
The PTA is planning our next exiting virtual event for the kiddos - a "Game Night" where students can join their friends in a handful of different "rooms" for a variety of games. We will need 1-2 volunteers per grade to pull this off. We will only be able to host the event if we can recruit at least 12 parent volunteers. The rooms will feature games such as trivia, bingo, hangman, etc. You don't need any specific technical knowledge or game aptitude - just a willingness to log onto Teams and help supervise the kids who are playing. If you're able to help with this fun event, please email Denice at events@normanrockwellpta.org.

FROM THE LIBRARY
Annual Dr. Seuss Multilingual Virtual Read Aloud Event in the Library!
Every year we celebrate Read Across America week and Dr. Seuss’ birthday with a Multilingual read aloud with his books printed in languages other than English. Normally, we would distribute Dr. Seuss titles in languages other than English (and English) and on the event day, Parents/children/peers would read them aloud for a group of students at the Rockwell Library.
As we are learning remotely, this year our event will be held virtually the week of March 1st, 2021.

Here is how it will work:

  • Parents/students (or classmates) express interest in participating and sign up for a book in their home language (see attached form)
  • Rockwell will check out the book in English AND the home language (to the student), then come to Rockwell and pick it up (email Mrs. Gordon to arrange a time or can come at Fetch)
  • Parents/Students will record themselves on FlipGrid reading the books (tutorial on how to do this will be shared later this month-once we have sign ups and books are distributed)
  • FlipGrid videos will be shared with all classes the first week of March, 2021.

Please have a look at the list, find a book in your home language, discuss with your family on whether you want to participate. Then email me and let me know which book you would like to read. I will add your students name/your name to the spreadsheet.

Questions? Feel free to contact me with any questions: shgordon@lwsd.org

I am so excited to continue to celebrate our students’ culture and language while reading these classic, fun books!

LWSD Open Enrollment
LWSD holds an open enrollment period once each year for parents who want their children to attend a school other than their neighborhood school. Parents may apply between February 1-26 for a change to their school assignment for the 2021-22 school year for their student in grades K-12. This option is also known as an In-District Variance. Learn More
