Message from the Chair

Thank you to everyone who brought forth exciting ideas at the Departmental Assembly in Calabogie last month. Notes from the brainstorming session can be found on our online bulletin board . We then defined a list and voted on the top three strategic directions for our Department as clinicians, teachers and researchers.  You can view the results online . I invite you to post your comments to our discussion board as we continue the dialogue to develop our strategic direction for 2050! Advocating for medical training and patient care in a Francophone environment 
From the Ontario College of Family Physicians

A well-regarded leader in Francophone medical education, Dr. Lyne Pitre has had a significant impact on the Ontario health system. Dr. Pitre was one of the first preceptors of the University of Ottawa’s Family Medicine residency program at the Hôpital Montfort site, the only Francophone program of its kind in Ontario, and was the program director for 22 years. Dr. Pitre is the recipient of the 2018 Regional Family Physician of the Year and the 2018 CFPC Scholarly Work in Family Medicine Education Grant.
Little Current’s Dr. Dieter Poenn named Ontario Family Physician of the Year

The Ontario College of Family Physicians (OCFP) has named Dr. Dieter Poenn of Little Current, Ontario, the 2018 Reg L. Perkin Family Physician of the Year .  Dr. Poenn has been an associate clinical professor of family medicine at the University of Ottawa since 1997 and an assistant professor at the Northern Ontario School of Medicine since 2005.

The DFM Marginalised Populations and Global Health Group is running a Holiday Drive to benefit the Ottawa Mission, Shepherds of Good Hope, Youth Services Bureau and Cornerstone Housing for Women. The Ottawa Practice Enhancement Network (OPEN)
The Department of Family Medicine at the University of Ottawa is working on the establishment of the Ottawa Practice Enhancement Network (OPEN). OPEN is a participatory consortium of primary care practices in the Champlain LHIN region that involve patients and health planners in quality improvement (QI) initiatives.
