When Yaakov sends Yosef to Shchem to see the "peace" of his brothers, we cannot help but think about what was going through Yosef's mind. One part of him must have been very negative about seeing them, knowing that they hated him. The other part, however, may have been more upbeat. Rav Bunim of Pshischa zt"l explains that Yosef was challenged by his father to seek the "peace", meaning "the good", of his brothers. According to this opinion, Yaakov wanted Yosef to look at his brothers differently, in a more positive light. Rav Bunim suggests that Yaakov was encouraging Yosef to look at the strengths and positive elements of his brothers and not their weaknesses which caused them to hate him. This is a lesson that has a very practical application. We are challenged regularly to look at the positive qualities of people and to allow these qualities to help us overlook their negative traits. This may be very difficult especially when we interact with individuals whose negative traits outweigh the positive. Furthermore, when dealing with people, we should strive to look at them from a different and fresh perspective, especially if we have had negative experiences in the past.

Good Shabbos!

November is Kiddush Society Month!

For the past few years, the entire shul community has enjoyed regular kiddushim and Seudah Shlishit, thanks to the members of the Kiddush Society whose $100 yearly contribution ensures that we have more than potato chips and pretzels for Kiddush and Seudah Shlishit. So, whether you typically attend the Hashkoma, Downstairs, or Beit Midrash minyan, we encourage all of you to join the many families who are already members of the Kiddush Society. For a suggested contribution of $100 per family per year, you too, can be a member!

Remember, it is because of the generosity of the Kiddush Society members that the shul is able to provide a welcoming Kiddush for each of our minyamin even when there are no specific sponsors for that week. If you enjoy coming to your minyan's Kiddush, we ask that you contribute to what works out to just $2 per week for your entire family. And, of course, membership entitles you to sponsor a Kiddush or Seudah Shlishit for that special occasion.

Current members will be automatically renewed and billed for the upcoming year. **If you would like to opt out, please contact the shul office.**
