TORAH PORTION
B'shalach ...
Now When [Pharaoh] Let [the People] Go
Exodus 13:17−17:16
Now when Pharaoh let the people go, God did not lead them by way of the land of the Philistines, although it was nearer; for God said, "The people may have a change of heart when they see war, and return to Egypt."
- Exodus 13:17
SUMMARY:
- The Children of Israel escape across the Sea of Reeds from Pharaoh and his army, who drown when God drives back the sea. (13:17-14:31)
- Moses and the Israelites sing a song praising Adonai. (15:1-21)
- In the wilderness, God provides the grumbling Israelites with quails and manna. God instructs the Israelites to gather and prepare on the sixth day food needed for Shabbat. (15:22-16:36)
- The people complain about the lack of water. Moses hits a rock with his rod and brings forth water. (17:1-7)
- Israel defeats Amalek, Israel's eternal enemy. God vows to blot out the memory of Amalek from the world. (17:8-16)

Last Friday night, we had a great turnout at services to see our new board of directors installed. I would like to thank outgoing president, Michael Gutenstein, for his leadership as the president of CNT for the past 2 years, as well as for his guidance and support during the board transition. Additionally, I would like to thank the other outgoing board members, Julie Segal, Johanna Kohler, Heather Pacin, and Bob Abrams. Thank you for all of your hard work during your terms on the board.
I would like to welcome Melissa Adelman, Gerald Moore, and Elaine Gutenstein, as new members to the board for 2019 and 2020. Looking forward to their ideas and contributions to the board. Finally, thanks to Rob Goldstein, Wendy Meyer, Elizabeth Poguntke, and Bob Huebsch for continuing on in their roles on the board. They will bring continuity to the board as we head into the new year. You can see the full leadership team of CNT and their roles here.
This past weekend, the board got together as a group for the first time. There was great discussion and dialogue on where the synagogue currently is and new ideas on where to take it in the future. Over the next several weeks and into February, the board will be discussing a variety of topics important to the future of CNT. Please stay tuned for additional info including the date for our first town hall of 2019 to be scheduled for early March.
Hope everyone has a great rest of the week and hope to see you at an upcoming event.
Thanks,
Brad Seitel, CNT President
