TORAH PORTION
Vayikra ... [God] Called Out
Leviticus 1:1−5:26
The Eternal One called to Moses and spoke to him from the Tent of Meeting, saying: "Speak to the Israelite people and say to them: When any of you presents an offering of cattle to the Eternal: You shall choose your offering from the herd or from the flock." -
Leviticus 1:1-2
SUMMARY:
God instructs Moses on the five different kinds of sacrifices that were to be offered in the sanctuary:
1. The olah or "burnt offering" was a voluntary sacrifice that had a high degree of sanctity and was regarded as the "standard" offering. The entire animal, except for its hide, was burned on the altar. (1:1-17)
2. The minchah or "meal offering" was a sacrifice made of flour, oil, salt, and frankincense that was partly burned on the altar and partly given to the priests to eat. (2:1-16)
3. The zevach sh'lamim or "sacrifice of well-being" was a voluntary animal offering from one's herd, sometimes brought to fulfill a vow. (3:1-17)
4. The chatat or "sin offering" was an obligatory sacrifice that was offered to expiate unintentional sins. This offering differs from the others in the special treatment of the blood of the animal. (4:1-5:13)
5. The asham or "penalty offering" was an obligatory sacrifice of a ram that was required chiefly of one who had misappropriated property. (5:1-26)

I hope everyone has recovered from losing an hour this past weekend due to Daylights Savings Time. It's always a struggle that first week,
but on the flip side it will be lighter in the evenings just in time
to take advantage of the spring weather.
On March 3, we had our first member town hall of 2019. There was a good turnout and lots of discussion on the key items the board is currently focused on. We discussed our current financial situation, our ongoing principal search, and a few other things. We also discussed how important it was to support the synagogue both financially and through volunteering. Members, please be on the lookout for an email from CNT that includes the slides that were covered during the meeting. If there are any questions, please feel free to reach out to me..
On a different note, I wanted to let everyone know about our annual community Passover Seder. It is scheduled for April 20th.
Please be on the lookout for more information about this event
and how to RSVP. Looking forward to seeing everyone there.
Hope everyone has a great rest of the week.

Meet Your Board
We're continuing our Board profile series this week
with Bob Heubsch, Director of Education
Born in the Bronx, NY. I grew up in Levittown, LI.
Sue and I married in 1964 and moved to Brooklyn, NY, where our
two daughters were born. From there the four of us moved to Marlboro, NJ. 36 years later, when Sue and I 'retired' from our teaching positions and moved to Woodstock to be closer to our daughter and her family
and in 2008, opened a day care with our daughter, Mountain View Prep, the temporary home of CNT Religious School and were no longer '
retired' just 'tired'. We had joined CNT in 2017. Missing my
45 years of teaching HS and college, I taught 3 semesters at KSU
until back surgery spoiled my ability to stand for long periods.
Our older daughter and husband live in Goodyear, AZ
I have been inspired by:
Sue and several excellent vice-principals and a principal. One piece of advice I received my first day of teaching HS was that "the kids here are crazy. To survive, you have to be crazier than they." I did that and survived well for the six years I was there. I transferred schools
and survived there well for 35 years.
How I spend my free time:
What 'free, time? It has been spent as Director of Education in the past four years and begin another two this year. As Director of Education,
I oversee Religious School, the B'nei Mitzvah, Education Committees, and Youth Group. In addition, I am on Finance, Ritual, and Space Committees, and naturally, the CNT Board.
HOBBIES:
Outside CNT, I belong to a weekly model train club. Here, I started filling a 12' x 12' bedroom with a layout working on it with my grandson. I'm also member of a local ROMEO group (Retired Old
Men Eating Out) meeting. I enjoy eating out: a major hobby:
my favorite hobby.
