The past two weeks have been inspiring for me as one of the leaders of Congregation Ner Tamid.
I have seen a full synagogue on November 2, not just our members, but friends of members, community leaders, and people of many other faiths. The sharing, support, and coming together shows this community will stand together.
I have seen over 50 people come out to hear Helen Weingarten, a Holocaust survivor, tell her story of how, even when terrible things happen, people have the will and sprit to survive. Again, these were not just our members, these were people from the community interested in seeing how someone can overcome great adversity without hate, anger, or a need for vengeance. This was especially impactful for the young people attending, so much so we will be planning another event like this in the spring.
I have seen our children attend a Jewish summer camp open house. Camps Coleman and Judea had representatives. They both showed the benefits of attending and supplied information to both students and parents.
I have seen a very high level of interest in CNT in general. We are getting more students auditing our services for college courses (which we highly encourage because ignorance is one of our biggest enemies), visitors interested in finding out more about us, what we do, and possibly joining or partnering with us on projects, and a high number of election ballots being returned (it's not too late - if have not voted, you can mail or drop off you ballot until November 25).
I am looking forward to the faith being shown for CNT to continue. This Friday is Dine and Discuss with Rabbi Prass at 6:30 PM. Please bring a kosher-style meal for yourself. Services will follow the discussion at 7:30 PM.
On December 8, we are having our fourth annual Menorah Lighting on the Marietta Square. The fun will begin at 6:30 PM with holiday music, hot chocolate, jelly doughnuts, dancing and a cash door prize! Children will be able to enter a drawing for the honor of lighting a candle. Please come early to enter.
As I said two weeks ago, best way to change things is by example. We are off to a great start, let's keep it going.
