TORAH PORTION
Lech L'cha ... Go Forth
Genesis 12:1−17:27
The Eternal said to Abram, "Go forth from your land, your birthplace, your father's house, to the land that I will show you."  - Genesis 12:1

SUMMARY:
·  Abram, Sarai, and Lot go to Canaan. (12:1-9)
·   Famine takes them to Egypt, where Abram identifies Sarai as his sister in order to save his life. (12:10-20)
·  Abram and Lot separate. Lot is taken captive, and Abram rescues him. (13:1-14:24)
·  Abram has a son, Ishmael, with his Egyptian maidservant, Hagar. (16:1-16)
·  God establishes a covenant with Abram. The sign of this covenant is circumcision on the eighth day following a male baby's birth. (17:1-27)

Shabbat Candle Lighti n
5:16 p o n Friday, November 15, 2019

This week I had the wonderful opportunity to visit with some college students at the Hillel of Kennesaw State University. They invited me in to discuss some of the big questions in life and how Judaism is a guide in those times. Specifically, we spoke about how we disagree and the instruction our tradition provides.
For some of us, we will have - do have - or have had children in college around the country. I want to share with all of us, how impressive it was to hear the next generation taking some time to sit and engage in words of Torah.
I know that for many of us, we worry about how the next generation will embrace their Judaism. We can only do so much while they are under our roof and then hope that it is enough to keep them connected to our traditions. Having seen these wonderful people
at KSU Hillel, I want to say that my faith is once again renewed in our future.
It is my hope that we will all do what we can to reach out to our family in their teens and twenties and remind them how pleased we would be if they would find a connection (even if it is a few minutes) to their Judaism in the coming weeks.
I look forward to seeing you around CNT soon.
