"Two are better than one because they have a good reward for their toil. For if they fall, one will lift up the other, but woe to one who is alone and falls and does not have another to help."

Greetings from LPGM!

LPGM is an independent pan-Lutheran 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in Minneapolis, Minn. For the past 30 years, LPGM has been working - and walking - with global partners to provide resources and opportunities for people at the margins, especially women and girls. Specifically, we work with partners in India, Tanzania, Guatemala, and the Central African Republic to provide access to quality education.

Learn about the history of LPGM by watching the short video above.

This is volume one is our new quarterly email newsletter for congregations.

While we have an established monthly email newsletter for our greater community, we know that your congregation has specific needs. Through this newsletter, we hope to provide you with information to share in your bulletins, newsletters, slides at worship, and website.

We will also share exciting ways to support - and connect with - LGPM's ministry. Finally, we hope this newsletter will provide you with inspiration and hope.

If you have suggestions or requests for this newsletter, please email office@lutheranpartners.org or call 612.823.5058.

Thank you for partnering with us in this vital ministry.

With gratitude,

LPGM Updates

Branding Update

While we continue to live out our Lutheran identity, vision and mission, we realized that our visual identity needed an update that reflects what we're up to in 2026 and beyond.

We hope that this branding update helps even more people recognize the powerful work that you enable and reflects the deeply held values that drive our mission.

We've Moved!

In mid-December 2025, we moved our offices from an office park in Edina, Minn., to Bethlehem Lutheran Church's Minneapolis Campus.

We have a deep, shared history with Bethlehem, and this move feels like a homecoming in many ways.

Gordon Olson, LPGM's co-founder, was the choir director at Bethlehem when his son, Tim, was killed in the Central African Republic in 1991 while overseeing the building of a church. This tragedy birthed our ministry. Choir members became early supporters of our ministry.

Stories from Partner Congregations

Oak Hill Church VBS Raises Over $300 for Mobile Computer Lab

During summer 2025, Oak Hill Church-CLB (Bloomington, Minn.) chose the Mobile Computer Lab in India as the recipient of its VBS offering collection. By bringing in spare change, VBS children raised $313.27!

"On behalf of LPGM and our Lutheran partners in India, we thank you for your gifts of change and dollar bills this week," shared Bethany Krepela, LPGM Development Director. "You have helped upgrade technology for the Mobile Computer Lab. You are a blessing to village students and their communities by opening doors to technology and hearing about Jesus!"

The Mobile Computer Lab is part of the English+ program, bringing computer skills to village children at Arcot Lutheran Church (ALC) elementary schools in Tamil Nadu, India.

Without this program, young students would not have access to computers during their school days, putting them behind their more privileged peers when competing for future jobs. The computers are also used to enhance English language learning, which is the primary goal of the English+ program.

Please reach out to Bethany Krepela, LPGM development director, at bethany@lutheranpartners.org or 612.806.0733 to learn more about setting up a fundraiser for LPGM at your congregation.

United Lutheran Honors LPGM Partnership with Poster

United Lutheran Church (Red Wing, Minn.) has partnered with LPGM for the past 25 years. Last fall they reached out to request a poster that succinctly represented our longstanding partnership's global impact.

We created a poster for them, which they enlarged to a poster size (bottom left).

Frank Trapanese from United Lutheran shares, "One of the other members of [our] giving team had the idea of the oversized checks across the posters to convey to the congregation the extent to which their dollars are being put to use in the world."

This poster, along with posters from their other giving partners, were displayed in the narthex and fellowship hall around Thanksgiving 2025. Giving team members rotated the posters to different areas of the church over several months to increase their visibility.

Please email Shannon Mahedy, communications manager, to request a personalized poster to display in your church.

LPGM Traveler Stories

Transcending Language Barriers through Song in Guatemala

By the Rev. Sara Spohr, LPGM board member and traveler

One afternoon at the Community Cloud Forest Conservation (CCFC) Center in Guatemala, my niece Karina (15) and I trekked out into the farm to plant trees with Elida and Deysi, leaders in the Women in Agroecology Leadership for Conservation (WALC) program. There was definitely a language barrier, so the outing began mostly in silence, figuring out how to communicate the logistical needs of the tree planting.

Eventually we found a rhythm and Elida began to hum a song. Deysi joined in. Karina perked up, because she’s a singer too. Soon, tree planting became secondary to the music and laughter. I was simply a witness to the joy. I happily recorded a video of the moment.

Twenty Years Later: Lessons from my “Holy” Surreal Trip to India

By Petra Vanderford, LPGM board member

As I was sitting in a church pew during an ordinary night of confirmation, someone began passing out half-sheets of paper with an announcement on them. "Looking for youth interested in traveling to India this summer!" I brought the paper home, not really sure why I was interested. My mom responded, "If you feel like this is something that God is calling you to do, we support you. We’ll make it work."

So, there I was – a shy teenager, signing up to travel half-way across the world for who knows what reason. I mean, I was sure we’d participate in a good amount of manual labor, and I enjoyed helping people in whatever way was needed. But as some may know, a trip like this often impacts you more than any impact you could have on a community.

A Day of Truth & Freedom: Imagining the World as it Could Be

A Personal Reflection by the Rev. Dan Ruth, LPGM Executive Director

Living in Minneapolis, I’ve been seeing ICE raids happening in my neighborhood. Tinted-glass vehicles appear, masked agents emerge, and families live in terror that a trip to the grocery store or a drive to work might end in separation.

Connecting with Thejasri: Reflections from a New Sponsor

By Shannon Mahedy, LPGM Communications Manager

When I first started working at LPGM, I didn't quite know what to make of student sponsorship. It felt a bit outdated to "choose" a student to sponsor, instead of donating to a general cause or specific need.
