Dear Friend,

Here's Wednesday (4-1-20) update:

  • The IRS issued specific information for the payments that will be made to individuals and families as a result of the $2 trillion stimulus package approved by Congress and signed into law last week. The vast majority of taxpayers do not need to take any action. More information can be found here.

  • The Treasury just released useful documents about the Paycheck Protection Program included in the stimulus package.
  • A document for employers, the self-employed and contractors is available here.
  • A similar document is available for lenders here

  • Gov. Cooper has issued an executive order prohibiting utilities, including electric, gas, water and wastewater services from disconnecting people who are unable to pay during this pandemic. More info about the order is available here.

  • An update from the Salvation Army:
  • The Salvation Army of Cape Fear is working closely with New Hanover County, the City of Wilmington, New Hanover Regional Medical Center, the American Red Cross, Good Shepherd Center, United Way of Cape Fear, and others to best serve the community and our homeless population.
  • Their Red Shield Shelter is operating under the Governor's Shelter in Place guidelines. We have erected a tent on our Second Street property to provide additional shelter.
  • Community meals continue to be served each evening from our N. Second Street shelter location. All meals are takeout/curbside.
  • Their Social Services office continues to work with residents in need of utility and rent assistance. We are seeing a drastic increase in requests.
  • All of their Family Stores are closed.
  •  All Volunteer opportunities are suspended until further notice.

I've been highlighting "good news" stories of individuals coming together to fight the crisis. Today's is Rachel Freeman Elementary, which became the latest school to hold a teacher parade on Monday, and they partnered with the Wilmington Police Department for what they called a community caravan to remind students that they care.

As always, stay tuned to  Coronavirus.gov  and  NC's Department of Health and Human Services website for the latest on the outbreak.

Sincerely,
David Rouzer
