4th Graders Birthday Wish
For her birthday, McKenly Halamicek's, a 4th grader at Junipero Serra School, requested, "What if for my birthday, Ventura County residents used 50% less water? That would be the best birthday gift I could ever have!”

Upon hearing this message, Ventura Water General Manager Susan Rungren made a special visit to Junipero Serra School to deliver a birthday gift to help McKenly achieve her conservation goals.

Join us in helping McKenly spread the message on the importance of water conservation!
Bug of the Month
August’s Bug of the Month is the filamentous bacteria. These bacteria grow in long strands, often resembling spaghetti. A healthy amount of filamentous bacteria is beneficial to the wastewater treatment process, while an abundance can cause issues at the treatment plant. But, our operators often wonder, are these organisms friends or foes? The answer may hang in the balance.

Filamentous bacteria are sensitive microbes that suffer when the wrong items are sent down the drain. So to keep our wastewater system balanced, be sure only to flush the three P’s- pee, poo, and paper!
