New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham

"Lujan Grisham, 60, became the first Latina Democratic governor of a state in 2018, after serving six years in Congress. 'El Soldado' Vandalized on Independence Day
Sacramento - California Mexican American mothers from Los Angeles held tamale sales to gather enough money to build a memorial for their sons who gave their lives to defend America. California is home to an estimated 300,000 Latino veterans who bravely served in the military.

The American GI Forum of California reported this hateful act to the Latino Journal and a photo of the vandalism is shown here.

Protesters are destroying historical and symbolic monuments such as El Soldado in the Capitol Park in Sacramento.

Frederick Romero, former State Commander of the American GI Forum, said, "I believe in peaceful protest, but not vandalizing our heritage of families who have fought for our country. Our memorial stands for our love for this country and the statute was brought to us by our mothers."
