With the new Fiscal Year beginning, I want to thank our Finance Department for the incredible job they do every day. While not always visible to the public, it is fair to say the work of our Finance staff is the backbone that makes all aspects of our City operations possible. From day-to-day tasks like paying the bills and processing payroll (pretty important!) to developing long-term financial strategies that ensure our economic stability well into the future, much of our collective success relies on their hard work.

I also want to acknowledge the many ways our Finance team has embraced and embody the Guiding Principles that are driving our organization forward. They collaborate with every department, always balancing the short and long-term interests of our organization. They’re also continuing efforts to further succession planning and empowerment of others. Their goal to empower their team members has been evident this year in many ways, just last month when Mark Krygeris gave his first formal presentation before the City Council. Mark did a great job!

For all these reasons and more, I hope you’ll take the opportunity to thank your colleagues in the Finance Department for the excellent job they’re doing on behalf of all of us.

Finally, I want to congratulate all the chili cook-off winners from this past weekend, especially Engineering Superintendent Byron Kutz for taking home first place. Per usual, my chili didn’t come close, and while I question the palates of this year’s judges, the fact is the competition gets better and better every year. It was great to spend time with all of you, and I look forward to the rib cook-off later this year.

Take care,

Jason

Thank you to everyone who came to the chili cook-off despite the rainy, cold weather!

A special thank you to the Activities Committee and all the volunteers who helped this year! This event would not be possible without you.
