Another summer has come to an end, and I hope all of you had an opportunity to enjoy the season with your family. For our organization, summer always means construction season, and we had another successful year. Some projects, like the Forest Park Boardwalk, remain in progress but are nearing completion and will be an incredible asset to the community once finished. Summer also brought with it many successful community events including Lake Forest Day and the Fourth of July Celebration. These cherished community traditions require an incredible amount of planning and execution by City staff across all departments, and I am grateful for your efforts to ensure their success year after year.
This fall will bring with it some exciting changes and new initiatives, including adoption of the City’s new five-year strategic plan. That project was an exercise in robust community engagement and interdepartmental collaboration and will serve as a roadmap for future policy and budget decisions over the next five years. A special thanks to George Issakoo for leading the initiative. Additionally, the Benefits Committee has been meeting for many months to review and evaluate options for the city’s medical benefits. You can expect to see some new information on their work in the coming weeks as we lead up to open enrollment in the late fall.
Finally, don’t forget about our rib cook-off, which is just around the corner on September 14th at Northcroft Park. In addition, new this year is our first staff pickleball tournament which starts on September 9th. The tournament final will be held at the rib cook-off, which should make for extra fun and lighthearted competition. HR is still accepting team sign-ups for pickleball if you’re interested. We continue to seek new ways to engage City staff and connect people across our organization. If you have any ideas to share, please reach out to HR and let us know!
