JUNE 2023
NEWS & STORIES
CTN Celebrates Pride Month
CTN is celebrating Pride all month long and sharing information and resources related to the LGBTQ2S+ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, two spirit, plus others) communities we serve. Celebrating this important month helps to create a vibrant community where all kids, youth and families belong. For the month of June, we encourage you to follow along on CTN’s Facebook, Instagram and Twitter channels, as we share resources, books, movies and listen to the voices of those in the LGBTQ2S+ community. We are Better Together.
June is National Indigenous History Month
This month we encourage you to reflect on and celebrate the many contributions made by Indigenous peoples of Turtle Island. For the month of June, we encourage you to follow along on CTN’s Facebook, Instagram and Twitter channels, as we share resources, books, movies and listen to the voices of those in the Indigenous community. By strengthening our collective understanding, we grow a deeper appreciation of the rich but traumatic history and the impact that it continues to have on the lives of Indigenous families. We acknowledge that there is so much work still to do. CTN is committed to our role in reconciliation through identifying and removing obstacles to health equity and implementing diversity and inclusion practices to support the Indigenous kids, youth and families we serve. Together, we can help fulfill our vision of a vibrant community where all kids, youth and families belong
Better Together: CTN is inviting kids, youth and families, employees, partners and community members to attend its Annual General Meeting. Craft activities will be available for kids and youth. Light refreshments will be provided.

Guest Speaker: Nathan Gaba - former CTN client, disability advocate and public speaker will share his journey and hopes for the future.

On June 4, CTN Community and Family Coordinators (CFCs) and the Equipment Loan Program hosted an Equipment Fair at The Common Roof in Barrie. It was a great turnout with many smiling faces and happy kids as they tried adapted bikes, went through our "bike wash" and met new friends. We had special guests from Ride For Change, Matt and Nicole Devine, stop by to learn more about CTN and spend time with the kids, youth and their families in attendance. Many thanks to Ride For Change and You Can Ride 2, for choosing CTN as a stop along their biking adventure.
Mobi-Chair® is a high quality beach wheelchair that floats thanks to its flotational wheels and armrests. It can be used on the beach, in the lake or even a swiming pool. The Mobi-Chair® is part of the CTN Equipment Loan Program and can be borrowed for two weeks by families of kids and youth who receive occupational therapy or physiotherapy services and live in Simcoe County or York Region.
EVENTS
Join CTN’s Community and Family Coordinators (CFCs) every Wednesday from July 5 to August 20 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. as they showcase accessible parks around York Region and Simcoe County. Kids and youth are encouraged to attend to explore the community and have fun with friends and family! Snacks, drinks and activities will be available. No registration required.
Join the Community and Family Coordinators (CFCs) for a free virtual workshop on June 14 from 12 to 1 p.m. for some tips and tricks on how to prepare you and your child for summer camp. Topics will include what to expect, where to find funding options, the difference between inclusive and adapted camps, and much more!
CTN and Closing the Gap have partnered once again to offer four camp sessions for kids with specific therapy goals. Camps are facilitated by a team of registered occupational therapists, physiotherapists and therapy assistants. Kids get to build skills, while having fun with new friends. Parents are also offered coaching sessions to provide tips for home. All sessions take place at The Common Roof in Barrie. Click the links below to learn more and register by June 16. Space is limited.

Our network calendar features events hosted by CTN, our partner organizations and other local community agencies that may be of interest to your family. New workshops, programs and events are added each week.
