There's More to the Story @ Your Library

Letter from the Library Director

DRG Oct 2021 Retouched.jpg

Debra Rhodes Gibson, Library Director

St. Johns County Public Library

April and libraries go hand-in-hand. This month SJCPLS participates in the annual National Library Week celebration from April 23 to 29. This year's theme is "There's More to the Story,"…. and that's quite an understatement!

Libraries are full of stories in various formats, from audiobooks to e-books and more. But there's so much more to the story. Our "Library of Things" includes Adventure Packs, Wi-Fi hotspots, NASA packs, binoculars and telescopes, chess sets, National Parks Travel Bags, and more, all available for our patrons to check out. Visit our website to learn more about our "Library of Things."

National Library Week: There's More to the Story

It's almost time for our favorite celebration, National Library Week! Libraries are full of stories in various formats, from picture books to large print, audiobooks to e-books, and more. But there's so much more to the story. Libraries have programming to unite people for entertainment, education, and connection through book clubs, provide crucial internet and technology access, and help build infrastructure to advance communities. They also lend "Things" like telescopes, adventure packs, seed packets, and more. During National Library Week, from April 23 to 29, stop by one of our branches or check out our services online and learn about all the great things we offer. There's something for everyone at SJCPLS!

Calling all Indie Authors!

Do you love writing but aren't sure how to get into the publishing pool? Here's your chance! The Florida Author Project writing competition kicked off on April 1. Finalists in this competition will be reviewed by The Library Journal, one of America's oldest and most renowned trade publications for library news. Winners will receive $1000, a full-page feature in The Library Journal, their work included in Indie Florida (a digital collection available on Biblioboard), and more.

Submissions must be indie-published, in the adult or young adult fiction genre, written by a Florida resident, and in an e-pub or PDF format. Entries are due by May 31, 2023. SJCPLS has tools readily available to assist authors with formatting and publishing here: Writer's Resources. We can't wait to see what stories our St. Johns County writing community shares.
