Connect With Pacifica This Week
Greetings!

You have a couple of great options to be out and about on Saturday, September 16.  California Coastal Cleanup Day is from 9-11am and the Pacifica Beach Coalition is leading the local effort. There are many opportunities to volunteer and make our beaches, parks, shoreline, creeks, parking lots and neighborhoods better. I hope you can take part. After that feel-good endeavor, you may want to head over to the Sanchez Adobe at 1000 Linda Mar Boulevard. From 12-4pm, you can experience what life was like on a rancho before California was a state in the 1840’s. Admission is free, with a small charge for food and crafts.

The effort to eventually realize large, modern library facilities continues. The next step is a community meeting on Thursday, September 28 at the Pacifica Community Center at 540 Crespi Drive. The Library Advisory Committee has been narrowing down potential sites for consideration by the City Council. At the community meeting, the Committee will be hosting a discussion on options for a new library. An open house will be held from 4-7pm, with a workshop from 7-8:30pm. Take advantage of this opportunity to help shape the future of Pacifica.

Please let me know if you have comments or questions, and  thank you for wanting to  Connect with Pacifica!

Best,
KEITH BRESKIN
Interim City Manager

  • September is National Suicide Prevention Awareness Month - According to NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness), suicidal thoughts, much like mental health conditions, can affect anyone regardless of age, gender or background. Suicidal thoughts, although common, should not be considered normal and often indicate more serious issues. Each year, more than 41,000 individuals die by suicide, leaving behind their friends and family members to navigate the tragedy of loss. In many cases, friends and families affected by a suicide loss are left in the dark. Too often the feelings of shame and stigma prevent them from talking openly. The Pacifica Police Department encourages our community members to familiarize themselves with warning signs of suicide and reach out to those in need. Additional resources and phone numbers for those in crisis thinking of suicide or those who know someone in crisis can be found on the police department webpage under Crisis Intervention- Suicide Prevention. The NAMI organization and San Mateo County Health System also offer suicide prevention and crisis resources.
