Highlights: Fog Jog and Family Fun Fest, Fog Fest Weekend, Library Project Community Outreach
Connect With Pacifica This Week

It’s that time once again! Fog Fest anyone? Fog Fest everyone! You know when it is: this Saturday and Sunday from 10am – 6pm each day. You know where it is: On Palmetto from Clarendon to Shoreview. And you know what it is: Our annual street fair with food and grog, music, crafts, art, countless booths of goods and just a great time. It is Pacifica at its best. Join me for a Fog Cutter?  See you there.

On Thursday, September 28 the next opportunity for community input on the proposed new library will take place at the Community Center. From 4-7pm there will be an informal open house conducted on options for the variety of uses that can be included in a modern library. From 7-8:30pm a workshop will be conducted on the same topic. Your input is vital to the process. Please take advantage of this opportunity to be heard. ( Click here for more information.)

Please let me know if you have comments or questions, and  thank you for wanting to  Connect with Pacifica!

We will have information on current City projects, upcoming events and opportunities, City resources and current topics. Sign up for regular updates from the City via email. Visit our kiosk to provide your input on a new survey as the new library project planning process progresses.

  • City Council to Hold Public Hearing on Accessory Dwelling Unit Regulations - On Monday, September 25 the City Council will hold a public hearing to consider changes to the City’s regulations for construction of accessory dwelling units, or ADUs. These are also commonly known as second units, in-law units, or granny flats. Accessory dwelling units involve attached or detached living areas with complete independent living facilities including their own kitchens, and must be constructed on sites with an existing single-family residence. They can also be created within the existing area of a single-family residence or in an accessory structure such as a detached garage. The City is updating its ordinance in response to changes in state law addressing accessory dwelling units which took effect January 1, 2017. The City Council will consider specific standards for construction of ADUs including whether to prohibit construction of certain types of ADUs on narrow streets. Details of the proposed ordinance are discussed in the City Council Agenda Report. The Planning Commission previously held three public hearings on the proposed ADU standards. The Planning Commission discussed this topic on April 17, July 17, and August 21. Videos of those meetings are available on Pacific Coast TV’s YouTube channel. If you are interested in providing input on this item, the Council meeting begins at 7:00pm in the Council Chambers, 2212 Beach Blvd., Pacifica. You may also send written comments to the Planning Department.

  • Pacifica Library Project Community Outreach Meeting on Sept. 28 at Pacifica Community Center - Help imagine Pacifica libraries options. The City will hold a Community Open House and Workshop at the Pacifica Community Center, 540 Crespi Drive, Pacifica on Thursday, September 28 for the public to learn more about the planning for a new Pacifica library, and to provide input to the City on your thoughts on the library project. Drop in to the Open House between 4:00pm and 7:00pm or participate in the Workshop from 7:00pm – 8:30pm. Learn about what potential sites and system strategies are being considered, and share your thoughts. See the Event Flyer for more information.

  • September is National Suicide Prevention Awareness Month - According to NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness), suicidal thoughts, much like mental health conditions, can affect anyone regardless of age, gender or background. Suicidal thoughts, although common, should not be considered normal and often indicate more serious issues. Each year, more than 41,000 individuals die by suicide, leaving behind their friends and family members to navigate the tragedy of loss. In many cases, friends and families affected by a suicide loss are left in the dark. Too often the feelings of shame and stigma prevent them from talking openly. The Pacifica Police Department encourages our community members to familiarize themselves with warning signs of suicide and reach out to those in need. Additional resources and phone numbers for those in crisis thinking of suicide or those who know someone in crisis can be found on the police department webpage under Crisis Intervention- Suicide Prevention. The NAMI organization and San Mateo County Health System also offer suicide prevention and crisis resources.
