As we close down 2017 and launch 2018, I’d like to wish you Happy Holidays and a safe and happy final week of this year. This will be the last Connect With Pacifica of 2017. Note the several City of Pacifica open positions below – Economic Development Manager , Recreation Leader , and Lifeguard – and please pass those recruitment announcements along to potential interested and qualified applicants. Also note the important work that will kick into higher gear in 2018 on the City’s Local Coastal Plan Update and Sea Level Rise Assessment, with numerous public meetings, as well as focused work from community representatives and technical agency representatives as part of the Community Work Group and Technical Work Group. More information about this project and upcoming public meetings can be found here ( http://www.cityofpacifica.org/SeaLevelRise) . This important project is supported by the California Coastal Commission and the Coastal Conservancy, and the thorough and open public input process designed for this project will ensure broad community education and input.

Spelling Bee for Grades 1 st – 5 th

1 st through 5 th graders can showcase their spelling knowledge in the 2 nd Annual Spelling Bee on presented by Pacifica’s Youth Advisory Board. Register online today for $10. Spectator fee is $5 per person at the door. See the Event Flyer for more information.

  • Marijuana Business Applications - The City of Pacifica began accepting marijuana business applications on December 12, 2017. See the Press Release or visit the Marijuana Business Program webpage on the City of Pacifica website for more information.

  • Tick-Borne Illness Risk in San Mateo County - San Mateo Mosquito and Vector Control District (SMCMVCD) is reminding residents that winter is the season for the western black-legged tick (Ixodes pacificus), also known as the deer tick. This tick is the primary vector for Lyme disease and other common tick-borne illnesses. See the Media Release from SMCMVCD for more information and precautions against tick bites and tick-borne illness. Lifeguard - The City of Pacifica is seeking enthusiastic and energetic individuals committed to providing excellent customer service and who enjoy interacting with people of all age levels to join our team in the Aquatics Division. Lifeguards patrol and oversee the activities in and around the community swimming pool, enforce regulations to prevent accidents and rescue swimmers in distress. The ideal candidate will have a current lifeguard certification, is flexible, self-motivated, attentive, and enjoys working with public.
