Connect With Pacifica This Week

This week I’d like to highlight two important City projects. First, the City’s public input process for updating Pacifica’s Local Coastal Plan for Sea Level Rise impacts is continuing, with expanded public meetings, outreach, and information. Although this effort involves complex information, from sea level rise and coastal protection science to various planning and regulatory frameworks, I encourage you to learn more by visiting the City’s Sea Level Rise/Local Coastal Plan Update webpage , and especially the Frequently Asked Questions document. On a topic that’s as important as this one is to the Pacifica community, please take the time to learn the facts, and don’t hesitate to send in questions to City staff if you’re hearing information from other sources that you’d like to check.

Secondly, at the City Council meeting on Monday, March 12, the City Council will consider whether to accept new proposals for a hotel development at the 2212 Beach Blvd./former Waste Water Treatment Plant site. The March 12 Council report can be reviewed here . During Council’s February 26 consideration of this item, a question arose about whether a different use, such as the concept of a Pacifica Ocean Discovery Center, would be better suited for that site. The Council continued the discussion to the March 12th City Council meeting in order to receive more public input on whether a hotel should be developed at that site. Please submit your input by taking this survey . The deadline for input on this question is 12:00 PM on March 12, 2018 .

Please let me know if you have comments or questions, and  thank you  for wanting to  Connect with Pacifica !

Pacifica Police Offers Second Public Presentation on Active Shooter Response March 20
Recent national tragedies remind us that the risk is real- an active shooter incident can happen in any place at any time. The best ways to make sure you and your loved ones stay safe are to prepare ahead of time and be ready. Taking a few steps now and mentally rehearsing what you can do can help you react quickly when every second counts. Learn those steps. Due to popular demand, the Pacifica Police have scheduled another presentation on March 20. Register online here ; space is limited.

If you are unable to attend the training, check out this Run, Hide, Fight video for some basic information on responding to an active shooter situation (please note that the video contains re-enactment of gun violence). For groups interested in scheduling a presentation at your location, please contact Captain Joe Spanheimer at spanheimerj@pacificapolice.org .
